Hyrum Lewis Kaupert, beloved son, brother, grandson, and friend, passed away leaving behind a legacy of quiet strength, deep integrity, and heartfelt kindness. Born on August 11, 1994, in Santa Cruz, California, to Peter Lewis and Kathryn Ann Brown Kaupert, Hyrum lived a life marked by devotion to family, faith, and thoughtful creativity.
Raised in a loving home, Hyrum attended Los Gatos High School in Los Gatos, CA, where his academic excellence shone—earning straight A’s and the admiration of teachers and peers alike. He later graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in Japanese, after which he pursued his passion as a game designer. His love for games—whether digital or tabletop—reflected his sharp intellect and strategic mind, but also his joy in connecting with others through play.
Hyrum was a straight arrow: honorable, understated, and deeply considerate. He had a quiet demeanor paired with a quirky, delightful sense of humor that endeared him to all who knew him. Fluent in Japanese, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Nagoya, Japan, where his humility and desire to do good touched many lives. He was also an Eagle Scout, a testament to his dedication and character.
More than his accomplishments, Hyrum will be remembered for the way he made people feel—valued, understood, and loved. He was a true friend, a loyal brother, and a cherished son. His bond with his siblings was especially strong, and his presence in their lives was a source of comfort and joy.
Hyrum is survived by his parents, Peter and Kathryn Kaupert; his siblings Peter David (Stephanie) Kaupert, Joel (Lorene) Kaupert, Ann (Jedadiah) Wheeler, Kinzer (Hannah) Kaupert, Alison Butler, Michael (Kimberly) Kaupert, Jesse Kaupert, Joseph Kaupert, Abby Kaupert, and Harrison Kaupert; and his grandmother Abigail Lynch.
His life was a quiet testament to goodness, and though he has departed, the impact of his love and example will continue to ripple through the lives of those who knew him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
