Helena Van Der Toolen Zeeman Funeral Service

Helena was born in Delft, Netherlands on April 20, 1933, to her loving parents Pieter and Johanna Van Der Toolen. She was the fourth of five children. When Helena was 16 her family migrated to America for a better life.

While learning a new language and way of life she was able to graduate from high school in Salt Lake City. Helena married her sweetheart John Darrell Zeeman on September 25th, 1953, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They lived in Salt Lake City for a few years then moved to Payson, Utah where they raised their seven children: five sons and two daughters. They lost their first-born son (David Lynn Zeeman) to crib death.

Helena was a dedicated wife and mother who loved to cook, bake, read, sew, and cultivate her beautiful gardens. She had a beautiful voice singing solos on many occasions and with many choirs. Later in life, she found a passion for flower arranging. She would make, display, and gave many arrangements away.

Helena loved the gospel and was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many church callings throughout the years. She especially loved being the chorister and working as the ward librarian. She had a strong testimony of the Church and could be found reading her scriptures every morning.

In 1964, Helena and Darrell went back to Holland serving for three years overseeing the building of the 1st Apledoorn Church, feeding and working with many young missionaries while they helped build it. Helena worked along with Darrell on all their business adventures from farming to running a general store. She loved to play games, especially Yahtzee.

She is survived by her brother John Van Der Toolen; children, Ron (Cherie) Zeeman of Bridgeland, Utah, Lynette (Jerry) Bradford of Payson, Utah, Raymond (Ellen) Zeeman of Talmage, Utah, Jeff (Terrie) Zeeman of Payson, Utah, Dana (Darcie) Zeeman of Santaquin, Utah, Roshelle (Vic) Jones of Spanish Fork, Utah; 34 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Her parents Pieter and Johanna Van Der Toolen, son David Lynn, brother Dirk Van Der Toolen, sister Elizabeth Van Beekum, granddaughter Britney Zeeman, sister Johanna (Jopy) Chilinski, and husband John Darrell Zeeman all proceeded her in death.

The family would like to thank Aspen Ridge Home Health for their dedicated service to Mom and Dad in the last few years, and Mom’s wonderful nurse Andrea who went above and beyond.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2023, at The Church of Jesus Christ located at the Mount Nebo Stake Center, 608 West 1400 South, Payson, Utah.
