Glade Allen Carr February 15, 1931 - October 7, 2022

Glade Allen Carr passed away in his Lake Shore home on October 7, 2022 surrounded by many of his family members.  Glade was born February 15, 1931, in Spanish Fork, Utah to Regina Bernice Carr.  Their family included a younger brother, Harold Olson.  Both boys enjoyed growing up with many relatives living close by, as well as spending time at the family farm in Mapleton.

After graduation from Spanish Fork High School in 1949, he felt the need to serve his country.  He chose the serve in the Army National Guard and was stationed in military bases in the Midwest.  When his service ended after 4 years, he returned to Spanish Fork.

Glade met Marie Youd of Lake Shore at a dance in Spanish Fork.  After a brief courtship, they determined to marry even though Marie was only 17 years of age.  Their marriage took place in the Salt Lake Utah Temple on June 24, 1953.  Their home was blessed with six children whom they raised in Lake Shore.

To support his family, Glade worked at Ironton, and then for US Steel, Geneva Works, where he retired after 35 years.  For many of the years at Geneva, he worked in the open hearth running an overhead crane.  He worked long, hot hours, but seemed to enjoy what he did.  Due to the fact that his retirement from Geneva started when he was only in his late 50’s, he needed another source of income.  This was when he started mowing lawns for many people.  He had numerous clients, included several widows who appreciated his detailed work and reliability.  He enjoyed this time of his life, and the friendships he made with his customers.

Another enjoyable hobby was woodworking with his wife, Marie.  She would find patterns for crafts and home décor and Glade would cut the designs and help her with construction.  They made a very good team with Marie’s creativity and Glade’s eye for detail.

Glade and his family ran a 23-acre farm while his children were growing up.  They also raised pigs, a milk cow and beef cows.  His children were taught the value of hard work through these activities.  Even when the farm was sold, Glade continued the raising of beef cattle even into his 90’s.  Glade and Marie enjoyed camping with their family as well.  Fishing trips and family campouts are treasured memories, especially with the grandchildren who remember the trips to Camperworld campgrounds.

After the passing of his beloved wife Marie, Glade enjoyed his lunch trips with Jay Olson.  These two could be found almost every day on their trips to town and other adventures.  Glade was especially sad to lose this great friend when Jay passed.  In his later years, he liked watching sports and western movies on TV.

Glade was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many various callings over the years in Lake Shore including High Priest Group Leader.  He and Marie served as LDS Missionaries to Indiana in 1995.  They loved their missionary service, and through that service gained an “adopted” son in Ben Kluger, who was also serving in that mission.

Glade is survived by his children: Cindy (James) Makai, Dennis (Donette) Carr, Darla Palkki, Allen (Carmen) Carr, all of Lake Shore; Rodney Carr of West Mountain; and Ivan (Lisa) Carr of Blanding.  Also surviving him are his beloved 20 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his mother Regina, brother Harold, 2 daughters-in-law Jane Ann and Gunchariga Carr, 3 grandchildren Karlee, Courtney and Austin Carr, and 1 great-grandchild Cindy Fangupo.

Services for Glade will be held at the Lake Shore Ward Chapel, 5916 S. 3200 W., Lake Shore, on Wednesday, October 12th at 11:00 a.m.  Friends and family may attend a visitation on Tuesday, October 11th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 187 S. Main, Spanish Fork, or Wednesday in the Lake Shore Ward Relief Society room from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m.
