Gilberto Sosa Ledezma passed away on December 4, 2024, in Provo, Utah. Gilberto was born in Colonia Juarez, Chihuhua, Mexico to Miguel and Ines Sosa. He attended elementary school in Colonia Juarez.
He moved to the United States in 1969 and settled in Salem, Utah. He was a farmer and worked for Sabin Orchards picking cherries and peaches for many years and later for the Strawberry High Line Canal Company as a maintenance worker for ten years before retiring.
Gilberto was very active and young at heart. His mode of transportation was riding his bike everywhere from Spanish Fork to Payson. He enjoyed camping and spending time with his loved ones. He was compassionate and loved caring for all animals, especially his chickens, cats, dogs, and horses. Gilberto spoke Spanglish and his favorite niece Teresa would always translate for him. He served as babysitter and Grandpa to Teresa’s family.
He is survived by his niece, Teresa Lowe of Salem, his brother Mike (Kayleen) Sosa of Springville, and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Miguel and Ines Sosa, sister Lilia Sosa, niece Pilar Ramirez, nephew Roger Lowe, and great nephew Troy Fairholm.
Gilberto lived a simple life and he will be remembered as a kind hardworking man, who always surprised you by his comments, which was always an adventure to tell. He was a member of the Catholic faith and lived selflessly to help anyone with anything. He will be greatly missed; “pretty good that way”.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Walker Funeral Home located at 587 South 100 West in Payson, Utah. Visitation will be prior from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Salem City Cemetery, 965 South 140 East, Salem, Utah.

December 6, 2024 at 6:37 pmI live across the street from Sabin orchards and saw Gilberto frequently working in the orchards and I’m his bike. One funny story I was outside working in our yard and I hear Gilberto talking to me from the shed/barn area. At first I did not realize he was talking to me but he got a little louder. He was saying “I love you..” I said, “What?” Because I was not sure he was talking to me but he said “I love you” again. I said “Sorry I am married.” He said something in Spanish and I didn’t hear anything else. I think he might have had little something to drink. Haha. He was a good worker and always waved at our kids as he went by. I am so sorry for your loss.
