George Dunbar Oldham, 2/18/09 – 3/6/21 PALMYRA, UT
George Dunbar Oldham, twelve years old, passed away from a tragic farming accident on March 6, 2021. He was born on February 18, 2009 in Salt Lake City, a son of Jedidiah Dunbar Oldham and Tiffany Lucille Oldham. George was their first born, the oldest of five children. His first year of life, Tiffany would walk the hallways in her home rocking and bouncing colicky George. She had a year of sleepless nights and smiled through it all because she was finally a mom, her lifelong dream.
George earned the nickname of “Curious George” because he loved to get into anything and everything. He would climb to the highest heights. He climbed out of his crib before he could even walk. Their world revolved around watching each new thing he learned. His animal sounds as a toddler were authentic, Jed made sure of that. He was our pride and joy.
For his short 12 years of his life, he moved five times in four different states- Utah, Missouri, Michigan, and Montana. They grew close as a family, and George learned he could do hard things and bloom where he was planted. He was so blessed to spend the last two years of his life back in Utah surrounded by his family and cousins he loves so much.
He was a ninja, a police officer, a karate kid, and an inventor. He loved to try new things. He loved his climbing wall, pull-up bar, and flipping around on trampolines. He was strong, limber, coordinated, and had amazing balance.
He loved music and preferred songs with a great beat. He sang every single time he was in the shower at the top of his lungs. He was a breakdancer and wrote his own rap songs.
He looked forward to every sports season, basketball, baseball, football and wrestling. He loved them all. He fulfilled his dream of playing tackle football this year and went undefeated and won the Championship as a Spanish Fork Don. It was always his dream to play for the NFL and now he is truly playing for the big leagues. He was athletic, he was willing to try everything and worked until he accomplished it. He practiced, practiced, practiced. At the same time, he was the world’s biggest cheerleader to friends, family, and cousins. If George was in the crowd you always knew it.
He was fiercely loyal to his family and cousins. He just wanted to be with them. He loved his trips to the family ranch and would spend the days riding four wheelers, snowmobiles, horseback riding, playing nonstop with his cousins, and doing tricks off the rope swing into the pond.
He was so blessed to have a wonderful group of friends, who he loved dearly. One of his favorite things was going to the waterpark with his friends ,and playing night games through the Palmyra fields. He was the life of the party, and he LOVED everyone!
He was so talented. He loved art. He was a good student. He was brave. He was respectful and kind. He was genuine. He was a dreamer with dreams bigger than you would believe. He was always willing to try new things, except when it came to food. He was a very picky eater, some of his favorites are cotton candy, ice cream, cinnamon rolls, Twix and lots of bread. He had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh.
He wore his heart on his sleeve. He was a mama’s boy and had a very tender heart. He didn’t want to disappoint people and always strived for excellence in everything he did. He forgave everyone. He was a big brother and a leader of the pack. He made us laugh and always told us how much he loved us. He thanked us and everyone around him for everything. He had great style and was such a handsome kid.
When they moved back to their farm In Palmyra, his job was to gather the eggs every morning and feed the animals with his brother, Carter. His dad taught him to value hard work and George learned so many skills by working at his side. Because of his Dad, he got to squeeze in a lot of adventure and memories on horseback and in the mountains. He loved his dog, Ginger, and it was common to see him cuddled up next to her on the floor in the middle of the night.
He had a strong testimony of prayer and knew his prayers were answered. He loved being a deacon and finally getting the opportunity to pass the sacrament. He always prayed to be able to serve a mission someday. They did not realize that his mission was going to start so soon.
Tiffany said “I want to thank George and Heavenly Father for letting me be his mama for twelve amazing years. It is so hard to imagine him not here with us. We loved him with all our heart. We find comfort in our testimonies of eternal life and that families truly are eternal. We’re grateful for the knowledge that the Savior lives and loves us. Please visit us Georgie boy because we miss you so much already. As long as I’m living my baby you’ll be.”
They would like to thank all the earthly angels who have rallied around their family during this heartbreaking time. You truly have been on the Lord’s errand and they are forever thankful for all of you. You have lifted and sustained them. They cannot even begin to thank all of the amazing people who helped play a role in raising George with them because they know that it truly takes a village.
He is survived by his parents, Jedidiah and Tiffany Oldham who were his biggest fans, his brother and very best friend, Carter Jedidiah Oldham; his sister that he loved and watched after, Lucille Ann Oldham; a little brother who wanted to do everything George did, Henry Ross Oldham; his little baby sister, Ruby Elizabeth Oldham, who he adored. He is also survived by so many aunts, uncles, cousins, Grandparents, and dear friends that played a huge role in his life and who he was. Their goal as a family is to LOVE life like George.
“Moreover, we can’t fully appreciate joyful reunions later without tearful separations now. The only way to take sorrow out of death is to take love out of life.” –Russell M Nelson
