George Ira Lish, 93, was reunited with his loved ones that have gone before him on June 7, 2026. He was born on June 18, 1932 to Bessie M Wanner and Ronald Lish in Inkom Idaho inside a train boxcar. He married his true love Joan Davis Lish on December 7, 1951 and they were later sealed in the Logan Temple on May 1, 1953.
He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hiking, fishing and he loved his catfish and never found one he didn’t like. He enjoyed helping his neighbors with tractor work and helping his wife transplant flowers because they always clashed. He enjoyed watching westerns and listening to good old country music. His favorite had to be the Bar J Wranglers.
George chose to enlist in the Navy just before his 19th birthday to avoid the Army Draft. He started his career as a Pipefitter as an E1. Later as a First Class Petty Officer, E6, he took the test to become an officer and was selected. His duty stations included San Diego, the Bay Area and two tours in Vietnam on a river boat repair ship, the Greenie Weenie as he called it so he could keep his family in the same home in Newark CA. He ended his 24 year career in Guam as a Lieutenant Commander, O4. He had great pride in his career and country. He worked at Geneva Steel and later opened his own Water Meter Repair Company.
George was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in many callings. Later in life, he served a two year mission with his wife Joan in Manila, Philippines taking charge of the Missionary Reception Center.
He is survived by his six children, Pamela Welton(Bryan), Sheryl Spurlock, Michael Lish(Tami), Robert Lish(Becky), Ronald Lish(Laurie), David Lish, daughter-in-law, Leslie Lish, 3 sisters, Arlene Leffler(Lamar), Carol Willford and Joyce Noreen, 2 Brothers, Gordon Lish(Karen) and Richard Lish(Lisa), 20 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his second wife Evelyn, his sister Sarah Ruth, son-in-law Dave Spurlock, grandson, Brady Lish and great grandson Nixon Driggs.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday June 18, 2026 at 220 Woodland Hills Dr, Woodland Hills, UT 84653. The viewing will begin at 9:00am with services starting at 11:00am. Following the funeral, a luncheon will be served. Interment in Orem City Cemetery at 2:30 pm.
