Garrett Bryan Hansen, 51, of Springville, Utah, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2023, from complications due to a tragic accident at his home.
Garrett was born in Payson, Utah, on September 12, 1971 to Gary Steve and Janet Porter Hansen. He was the oldest child with siblings, Jana, Holly, Todd and Dallas. He grew up in Salem, Utah, where he attended grade school and graduated from Spanish Fork High School.
Sports are what he loved, especially baseball. Always fearless as the catcher for his youth teams. You might have to break out the binoculars when he hit the ball, he made it fly so far. As he got older, he loved to play softball with any and all teams. Five nights a week was not too much, with an all-night tournament on Saturday.
In November of 1992, he married Lisa Barnett and they had two children, Kelsey and Tyson. They were later divorced. On June 1, 2006, he married Lisa Christensen, whom he had known for many years. They had a son, Xander. They later divorced but remained friends up until the present.
The Cubs, Cowboys, BYU and the Jazz were his teams. Watching them play was a favorite pastime. He was able to attend several of their games, a highlight of his life, and had plans for another trip.
He loved big machinery from the time he could play in the sandbox to when he could play in them as an adult, he had trucking in his veins. Driving trucks for oil companies in the cold North Dakota winters was not a comfortable place to be but being in that big rig was his favorite thing to do. He worked for several trucking companies in the past and currently worked for Arise Services, where he made many good, and lifelong friends. He loved his job and all the people he met. He enjoyed dispatching the drivers and being able to keep all the information in his head. He was teased by his co-workers for his perfect handwriting, making his reports neat and accurate.
Finding a good adventure was something on his list of things to do. Fishing, camping, four-wheeling, being on the lookout for deer or elk or even playing a game of cards. His smiles were infectious, when he laughed his entire body was involved, friends wanted to laugh just watching him.
Although he was a big man, he had the tender heart of a teddy bear and was thoughtful of others. Last month he reached out to his friends to wish them all a happy Father’s Day. Scary books were top on his list of things to read, he also liked instruction manuals and learned everything he could about his meat smoker or new kitchen appliance. His enjoyment of learning allowed him to voice random bits of trivia for our enjoyment and amazement. Music was a natural part of his life. There was not a song he did not know the title of, the person recording it and all of the lyrics. Cooking brought him pleasure, especially if friends and family gathered to share.
His kind and caring personality was displayed when he was able to donate his organs to bless other peoples’ lives.
He worked hard and played hard. He will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Steve Hansen and his grandparents, Sam and Ruby Hansen and Clell and Phyllis Porter. He is survived by his mother, Janet Hansen, of Spanish Fork; his children, Kelsey Hansen and her boys, Gabriel and Makai; son, Tyson Hansen; son, Xander Hansen; his sisters, Jana (John) Wheeler of Spanish Fork, and Holly (Jeremy) Draper of Salem; brothers, Todd Hansen of Springville, and Dallas (Ashley) Hansen of Salt Lake City; and his ex-wife, Lisa Hansen, Springville.
A viewing will be held at Walker Funeral Home, 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, Utah, on Thursday evening, July 6, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be at Walker Funeral Home on Friday, July 7, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing also that morning from 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral.
