Galen Roy Hooper passed away peacefully surrounded by family, September 15, 2023, in Payson, Utah. He was born October 31, 1948, in Richfield, Utah to Keith R. Hooper and Mary Christensen Hooper. He grew up in Annabella and Duchesne, Utah.
He graduated from Duchesne High School, then attended Snow College where he earned an Associate’s Degree. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served a mission in England, where he grew to love the country and its people.
He served his country in the U.S. Army, Utah National Guard.
Galen married Kathleen Marie Chandler in Manti, Utah on May 28, 1971. His family always teased him that he proposed at gunpoint as he had an unloaded gun with him when he proposed, and he did enjoy guns and target shooting. He and Kathleen had five children: Sandra, Sally, Sarah, Jared, and Jonathan.
As an adult, he worked as an electronics technician. From an early age he was very industrious and always worked hard. Galen had the unending patience of Job.
He loved being with his family. He enjoyed being in the mountains, fly fishing (and fly tying), ham radio, wood carving, and target shooting. He had a passion for and was very knowledgeable about electronics. He loved music, including singing and playing his guitar. He also enjoyed swimming; he swam like a fish! He loved animals, especially dolphins.
Galen is survived by his beloved wife Kathleen, children: Sandra (Kelly) Bowden, Sally (Gordon) Jones, Sarah (Larry) Roundy, Jared (Angela) Hooper, and Jonathan (Karin) Hooper, and by 32 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Ann Stanworth, Keith R. Hooper, Laural Hooper, Ione Roth, Carma Steck, and Lula Billy.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Beehive Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 952 West 1580 South, Payson, Utah. Family and friends may gather at a visitation prior from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment with military honors will be in Payson City Cemetery, 400 North 800 East, Payson, Utah.
