Fred A. Selle III, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend left this earthly life Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at the age of eighty. Fred was born in Pocatello, Idaho but grew up in St. Anthony enjoying the thrills and wilderness of eastern Idaho. Of the many places Fred lived throughout his life, he always considered St. Anthony home.
After graduating from South Fremont High School, where he participated in sports and student government, Fred attended the University of Idaho and Ricks College before enlisting in the US Army. He served his country overseas in the Army Security Agency. Before leaving for basic training he married the love of his life, Judith Olson of Idaho Falls – a union that just passed fifty-seven years.
Following his first assignment in Turkey, the Army transferred Fred to southern Germany where Judi joined him. Later, they welcomed their first child. After his honorable discharge, Fred and Judi returned to the US where the growing family lived in Logan, Utah. They welcomed their second child while Fred earned his degree in Civil Engineering.
With a diploma in hand from Utah State University, the family moved to LaGrande, Oregon where Fred started a long career as a civil and environmental engineer. In Oregon, Fred and Judi’s third child joined the family. Fred’s career took the family around the Pacific Northwest – building everything from dams and harbors to golf courses and subdivisions. They finally settled in the Seattle area for several years before Fred and Judi moved to Las Vegas and finally to the splendor of the Wasatch Mountains in Santaquin, Utah.
Fred took great interest in his children, daughters-in-law, grand and great grandchildren, always wanting to understand the details of the things they were doing in life and how they were growing. In all stages of their lives, they brought him immense joy. Each of them knew that when he asked how they were doing – simply answering “Fine” was never an acceptable response.
Fred’s siblings and other family members preceded him in death far too early in his and their lives. He diligently tried to be a positive influence in the lives of his several nieces, whom he loved like his own children, making efforts to be there for them and help them remember how much their parents loved them.
Fred is known to so many for his playful, teasing personality and regularly pausing to take a moment to talk with a complete stranger to bring a smile to their face. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for much of his later life, Fred marveled at the mysteries of God and His creations. He felt a deep desire to lift others, served in capacities where he was asked, and found some of his most cherished service opportunities in the Seattle Washington Temple.
We are grateful for the many friends, family, and healthcare workers who prayed for, visited, supported, and loved Fred in his final weeks. You are literal answers to prayers; your compassion is an example to us all.
A complicated man – he will be missed. Godspeed Fred.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,
860 North 350 West Santaquin. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral service starting at 9:30 a.m. Interment will take place at the Santaquin City Cemetery.

February 16, 2025 at 5:03 pmDear Judy, Fred’s children, grandchildren and family. Cara and I are sorry and saddened for your loss.
Fred and I were lifelong friends. I was with him when he first asked Judy to go out with him.
I am thankful for Fred for all he did for me. He helped me in many ways. I am grateful more than words can express. We did sports together. We fought together. We eat many meals together late at night after taking our dates home. We raced the family Hurst/ambulance. Life was fun and good with Fred. We weren’t bad, but we pushed boundaries sometimes. Thank you Fred for caring about me. Our long phone calls (more than four hours and never less than two). Judy sat and quietly listened. You are all blessed because of Fred and his love for you. May blessings of peace envelope you at this special time of relection, tribute and honor to a man dearly loved.
