Fred C Huff passed away peacefully at home on October 29, 2024. He was born in October 1931, in Lake Shore, Utah to Mark Huff and Ann Baadsgaard Huff. He grew up on the family farm in Lake Shore where he learned the value of hard work. He spent his days helping tend to the cattle, milking cows, tending honey bees and hoeing sugar beets. He married his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, Caroline Jean Peden (Jeannine) in 1948 in Provo Utah and the marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In August they celebrated their 76th wedding anniversary. Fred’s greatest love was his family. Fred and Jeannine were blessed with five children, Jolene, Vivian, Kent, Craig and Paul. In addition to their children, their posterity includes 31 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Fred attended Lake Shore elementary and graduated from Spanish Fork High. He continued his education at Trade Tech and Brigham Young University before graduating from Wilson Engineering College.

He worked for U.S. Steel at Geneva in the engineering department for 35 ½ years where he was involved with the design and construction of many of the facilities at the steel plant. After retiring from Geneva, he went on to work for Lake Shore Engineering, Sherwin Johnson Engineering and Rocky Mountain Helicopter where he designed air ambulances. In addition to working he taught night school at Geneva and at Trade Tech in Provo.

Fred was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving all his life in various callings, including in the Young Men’s, Sunday School, several bishoprics, the High Council and as Bishop. He was called and served a mission for the church to design and develop a recreational facility. He had a firm testimony of his Savior Jesus Christ and would share that testimony often.

Fred was an avid golfer and made many wonderful friends at Hobble Creek golf course. He continued to golf into his ninety second year. He helped in the development and construction of the new course in Hobble Creek Canyon in the 1960’s.

Fred is survived by his wife Jeannie, his daughters Jolene Camara, and Vivian Nazzise and sons Kent (Diane P), Craig (Diane A) and Paul (Camille), his 31 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and his sister-in-law Olga Huff. He was preceded in death by his Parents, two brothers Howard and Eldon Huff and two sisters Betty Davis and Beth Harris and a great-great grandson Cache Gottfredson.

How I will miss my good friend Bishop Huff. We served together in many callings and were neighbors for many years. May you rest in peace now, Fred, and may Jeannine be comforted in her loss. We will all meet again as each of us reaches that point in life that you have passed through. Thank you for many great memories as a neighbor, friend, and church eader.

    Love,
    Diane Hartman

Growing up in Brookside was a heaven sent gift. The Huff family were a huge part of that gift. All of us kids were a little intimidated by Brother Huff because he was so giant with a little bit of gruff undertones but a heart the size of Texas. He was a tremendous example to so many of Christ like love and compassion. Rest in peace Bishop!

Fred was a wonderful priest quorum advisor. He took a great interest in all of us. He saw us not as the rowdy irreverent and incurragable young boys that we often were, but as the young men that we had the potential to become. Our MIA activities included introducing us to different professions so we would think about what we wanted to be. I know that is when Jim Pratt and I decided we wanted to go to law school. He also arranged for our group to meet with young women’s groups from out of town so we could learn how to be gentlemen and how to treat young women. He was patient and kind and earned our respect and admiration. That was a great group and he had a tremendous influence on us at a very important time in our young lives.
He and Jennie were great friends of my parents Bish and Bonnie Snelson. They spent many evenings closing down Hobble Creek golf course trying to get a round in after work. Brookside was a special place to grow up because there were so many good people , like Fred and Jennie I always consider them the rocks that made a safe harbor for where we could play, learn and grow .
