Frank Dale Wall
August 13, 1943 – March 17, 2026

Frank Dale Wall, age 82, passed away peacefully on March 17th, 2026, surrounded by family in his home in Salem, Utah.

Frank was born on August 13th, 1943 in Provo, Utah, to Dale and LaRue Gammell Wall. He was the first of five children and grew up with a strong sense of responsibility, family, and hard work that would guide him throughout his life. His childhood was filled with adventure, often running around with his best friend, Duane Thornton, getting into all kinds of trouble—and, more often than not, creative explanations afterward. He loved playing baseball and was on a Little League all-star team, a passion he carried throughout his life and one he was always happy to talk about.

From a young age, Frank learned the value of hard work. He worked on the Olsen family farm, hauling hay and milking cows, where he also began dating the farmer’s daughter—proving early on that he was not afraid of either hard labor or bold decisions. He graduated from Provo High School, where he was actively involved in FFA.

Frank served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Central America beginning in 1962, leaving on the very day he had been scheduled to be married to Diane (the farmer’s daughter)—a story that would be told and retold with a smile for years to come. He faithfully served for two and a half years. Upon returning home, he married Alice Diane Olsen on September 8, 1965, in the Salt Lake City Temple, officiated by President Thomas S. Monson.

Frank attended Utah State University and Brigham Young University, where he graduated with a degree in Agricultural Science. After holding various jobs, he was hired by the Utah County Sheriff’s Office in 1973. He spent most of his career serving as a detective in the Investigations Division, where his attention to detail and steady demeanor served him well—along with a sense of humor that likely helped in more situations than any official report would note. He retired as a lieutenant with the Utah County Sheriff’s Department in 2008.

Frank and Diane were blessed with six outstanding children: Cheryl, Brian, Debbie, Julie, Brent, and Amy. He cherished time spent with his family and loved going on family trips—whether everyone was ready to go or not. He had a deep love for the outdoors, including four-wheeling, camping, hunting, side-by-side trips with family and friends, and making memories at the family cabin in Indianola. He loved the 1950s era and especially enjoyed cruising in his 1954 Chevy Bel Air with the grandkids, who will forever remember both the rides and the stories that came with them.

As a man of deep faith and service, Frank held many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Home Teacher, Elder’s Quorum President, High Councilor, and serving in a Bishopric. He was always found serving others, especially the widows in the neighborhood—often quietly and without recognition. Following his retirement, he and Diane served four missions together: at the Provo MTC Referral Center, in the Argentina Humanitarian Mission, in the San Salvador, El Salvador Temple, and later serving in the Nauvoo Temple. Frank loved the temple. He served as an ordinance worker and attended frequently with his sweetheart, setting an example of devotion that will not be forgotten.

Frank was loved by many. He had a gift for storytelling and a wonderful sense of humor that he freely shared with anyone willing to listen—and even a few who weren’t. He had a firm testimony of Jesus Christ as his Savior and Redeemer and lived a life that reflected that faith.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Diane, and five children: Cheryl Moake (Todd), Debbie Wright (Jason), Julie Gill (Craig), Brent Wall (Lindy), and Amy Wall Johnson (Mathew); 22 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; as well as his brother, Tim Wall, and sister, Linda Mock. He is preceded in death by his son, Brian Wall; granddaughter, Bailey Wall; his parents; his sister, Carol Wall; his brother, Michael Wall; and several extended family members and friends.

Frank was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His stories, his laughter, and his example will live on in all who were lucky enough to know him.

I am so sad to hear of the passing of Frank. Frank was the most gentle, kind and least judgmental man. His service made a lasting impression on me and my children. I pray for peace and comfort for the Wall family during this difficult time.
