It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Frances Durrence, who left us on Monday, May 27 th , 2024 at the age of 82. Frances was born August 11, 1941 to Rufus Ivey and Ruth Mae Horton in Alma, Georgia. She was the 8th of 9 children. She loved all of her brothers and sisters and enjoyed spending time with them. Some of her favorite times in her later years was spent at family reunions in Georgia.

She met the love of her life Kellis Ronald Durrence Sr. (Ron) while out on a double date. They were married in a small wedding in Jesup, Georgia on August 13, 1960. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Manti Utah temple on July 6, 1962. While still living in Georgia they had their first two children Kellis and Melissa. In 1972 they packed up their little family and moved to Spanish Fork Utah. After moving to Utah, they had two more daughters Kristen and Tiffany. Ron passed away on March 16, 2005. Frances loved being a stay-at-home mom while her kids were little. She loved baking and anyone that knew her usually got one of her famous pies for Christmas. She spent a lot of her summer with the family fishing and camping. When she had a few free minutes, you could find her reading historical romance, watching Hallmark movies, or going for walks. After her children grew up, she took a job working as a lunch lady for Nebo school district. She enjoyed all the friends she made at Reese and Larsen Elementary Schools and Spanish Fork Middle School. She also loved all of her grandkids and loved it when they came to visit.

Frances was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She spent some time working with the youth in the Young Women’s group. She and Ron were called to work in the Family History Center in Spanish Fork indexing names. They worked there together learning to decipher foreign names to index. One of her favorite callings was working in the library. She held this calling several times and was always sad when they released her. She loved that calling because it was a way for her to visit and meet many of the people in both the 8th ward and Maple Meadows 1st Ward.

Frances is survived by all four of her children Kellis (Chantel) Durrence of Mountain Home Idaho, Melissa(Roger) Faris of American Fork Utah, Kristen (Rex) Johnson of Santaquin Utah, Tiffany (Andrew) Boulter of Kansas City Missouri. She has 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She also is survived by her only living brother William (Bill) Horton of Savannah Georgia as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Ivey and Ruth Horton, her husband Ronald, 4 brothers, 3 sisters and her granddaughter Nicole Durrence McGuffin.

There will be a public viewing on Friday, May 31st from 6-8 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home in Spanish Fork. A funeral will be held in her honor on Saturday, June 1st at 11:00 a.m. with a family viewing preceding the funeral at 10:00 a.m. at Walker Funeral Home in Spanish Fork. Interment will be at Spanish Fork Cemetery.

The family wishes to give their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at Spring Gardens Assisted Living in Mapleton Utah and the nurses with iCare hospice for all the wonderful care they gave to their mother and grandmother.

Kellis & Chantel, Melissa & Roger, Kristen & Rex, Tiffany & Andy, Oh, how my heart aches to be with you all and share the love and comfort. Frances was more a sister than a sister-in-law. I will love her always, and I am so happy to know that she is with Ronald and her family. Know that we love each of you too.

I had a wonderful experience to see Frances almost every week at Sacrament meeting and I played the piano at that time. I would talk with her, hold her hand, and wish I could stay longer with her. Other times I would see her get her nails done or sing with us while I played. One day I was surprised that she pulled me down and gave me a kiss. I am at Spring Gardens. I wish I could have stayed with her more often. I will miss her. Kay Stiverson
