Emilie Binkerd passed away on September 21, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones in Provo, Utah. She was best known in her community for how passionate she was about being a crossing guard at an elementary school. She leaves behind a legacy of love and friendship that all who knew her felt on a constant basis.
She was born November 19, 1950, in the tiny town of Hopferstadt, Germany to Peter and Regina Adelhoch. She spent her childhood in a very small farming town before going to work in the local hospital. It was working there that she went on a blind date with a random American soldier, Blaine Binkerd, who she would go on to marry on December 14, 1973. They spent the next decade of their lives moving around for military and bringing 7 children into the world. They eventually made a more permanent move to Orem, Utah where they would raise their family for the next 18 years before settling down in Spanish Fork, Utah.
She made herself a staple in many areas of her life, including her church and her senior center, gathering more friends along the way whether they knew it or not.
She is preceded in death by both her parents, both her brothers, and one sister. She is succeeded by her husband of nearly 51 years, Blaine Binkerd, and her children, Thomas, Katja Hicks, David, Douglas (Shauna), James, Genevieve Clark (Adam), and Chryseis Payne (Casey) and by her many grandchildren who will miss her deeply.
She will be buried in Spanish Fork Cemetery.

September 28, 2024 at 8:25 pmWhen my family moved to Orem from Germany, we moved in with my parents for a few months and then to an apartment in my parents ward. Emilie was in that ward and she became mine and my mother’s visiting teacher. She was a lot of fun. I was lucky that I could understand pretty much everything she said because she spoke a mixture of German and English. Emilie was always friendly and kind. She and I worked at Geneva Elementary school for a while together. I really missed her when they moved from our ward.. I am so sad to hear of her passing. I hope and pray that her family will feel comfort and peace and know that she isn’t that far away. She is having a wonderful reunion at thr moment. God bless you all especially at this time and always. Love, Karen Draudt

October 2, 2024 at 8:01 pmIt was a complete pleasure talking with Emilie after school on Tuesdays for the past couple of months. She was always excited to talk about her family and Germany. We spent a lot of time on Google Earth looking for places she lived in Germany and was excited to get back there to visit in a couple of years. I love her good sense of humor, her enthusiasm for life, and her spunk. I don’t think that a minor thing like passing away will slow her down!
