Eldon A. Money November 7, 1930 - July 8, 2020

Eldon Anderson Money, a compassionate man of genuine integrity passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at the Spring Garden Care Center in Mapleton, Utah. He was a man of the land who loved to prepare, plant, care for and harvest the fruits of his labors. Eldon was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Eldon was born November 7, 1930, in the family home in Palmyra, Utah. He was the son of William Jex and Henrietta Anderson Money. They were affectionately known to all as simply “Bill and Etta”. Eldon married the love of his life, Sharlene Swenson, of Spanish Fork, Utah, on May 19, 1953, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Eldon was taught the value of hard work. In his early life, he helped his father on the farm where they raised and trained workhorses. His family also raised beef cattle and produce. As a young man, he was able to buy and pay for a custom beet topping machine that helped many neighbors harvest their crops.

Eldon graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1949. Following his graduation, he enrolled at Utah State Agricultural College. From that point on, he was their number one supporter. He loved the Aggies. Even though he loved school, his father needed him on the farm, so he cut his schooling short and returned to the farm he loved.

Eldon is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many church positions.  He served twice as a High Councilor and two times in ward bishoprics. He also served as the Bishop of the Palmyra Ward.  He and Sharlene served as missionaries in the Kirtland Visitors Center in Kirtland, Ohio, from 2005 to 2006. He also served as an ordinance worker in the Utah Provo Temple.

Eldon was proud to be an American. He could never see a flag or hear a patriotic song without tearing up and becoming emotional. He loved and served his country by the way he lived. He was a member of the Utah National Guard for 13 years. He was elected to the Utah State Legislature, where he served in the House for five years and later served as a State Senator for 17 years.  He was the Chairman of both the State Farm Service and the Utah Department of Corrections. He also served six years on the Youth Parole Authority.

He served as President of the Utah County Farm Bureau and the Spanish Fork Kiwanis Club. He also was the Manager of the Utah State Junior Livestock Show.

Eldon is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Sharlene Swenson Money; daughter, Nanette Money, of Spanish Fork, Utah; daughter, Leslie Kay Money (Lane) Henderson, of Spanish Fork; son Brent Eldon (Kris) Money, of Palmyra, Utah; daughter, Allison Money (Richard) Nelson, of Alpine, Utah; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Phyllis Money Christensen and Joan Money Huntington. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Ann Money; brothers, William (Bill) Money and George Money; and sister, Rhea Money Jones; and granddaughters, Nicole and Amberly Henderson.

Sorry for your loss. I work with Eldon while he served on the Mt. View Hospital board or directors. Eldon was upright and honest always with a smile. He educated me one night as he was late to our meeting due to dealing with calves who had the scours. I hadn’t heard of the scours prior to that. He will be missed.

We are so happy that Farm Bureau brought us together. Our friendship grew from there to so many things. We love being with you and your family. The camping, the Lake Powell, the convention trips, it was always so fun to be with you. We were shocked to learn of your passing just this morning. We appreciate all of the fun times and even appreciate the crazy time of Annette running into our boat out at Flaming Gorge. Crazy times, fun times, we will remember them forever. Thank you for your kindness to us. Love you always, Robert and Cumorah. See you morah. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and give your mom a big hug for us.
