Elden C Stallings passed away peacefully at his home in Birdseye, the morning of November 7th. He was born on February 16, 1932 to Lewis Golden Stallings and Vernice Barney Stallings in Spanish Fork, Utah where he grew up and graduated from Spanish Fork High School. At a very young age he began helping his family, local farmers, and ranchers work their fields and farms with draft horses and horse drawn machinery. This was the beginning of a lifetime of working with a team of horses, saddle horses and Horned Hereford cattle.
Elden married LaRae Nelson on May 9, 1953 in Springville, Utah. Together they had three sons and two daughters: Kevin, Barney, Trudy, Cindy, and Kelly. He began his career working on the railroad with his father. At this time he was also a member of the Army National Guard. At the end of the Korean War his railroad experience took him to Korea where he was instrumental in getting the railroads back online, earning the rank of sergeant and later receiving an honorable discharge. Upon returning home he went to work for the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad where he worked as a carman until his retirement. Elden and LaRae raised their family in Spanish Fork until moving to Salem in 1971.
Retirement from the railroad and moving to Salem gave Elden the freedom and opportunity along with his family to manage a cherry orchard, expand his own ranching operation, herding cattle and managing the grazing with his brother Blaine on the Payson Canyon and Lake Fork summer range permits. Calf Roping, and Horse Racing with his son Kelly as trainer and jockey was considered his hobbies and provided many of the highlights of his life.
He later moved to Birdseye where he built his home and continued to manage his cattle and enjoy the open range around his ranch riding his horses.
Elden is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He is survived by four of his five children: Kevin (Debbie) Stallings of Mt. Pleasant; Barney (Valerie) Stallings of Birdseye; Trudy (Gus) Farley of Salem; Cindy (Michael) Koenes of Denver, Colorado. Also survived by 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren; as well as his brother Blaine Stallings. He is preceded in death by his wife, LaRae; and his son, Kelly Stallings.

November 11, 2022 at 4:38 amTo the Stallings Family,
My condolences to Eldens family, from Eric Shepherd, Doug’s oldest boy, and Max’s Grandson.
I have so many great memories of your father when I was a boy, up Page Fork during the Deer hunt.
I haven’t seen him for many years, but I want you to know those memories will always be a cherished part of my childhood.
