Edward Kay Barney Sr. (Ted) was reunited with his sweetheart on May 26, 2023.
Ted was born on June 2, 1939, to Melvin Benjamin Barney and Sarah Catherine Clawson in Provo, Utah. He attended Dixon Junior High School and Trade Tech in Provo Utah. He started working with his brother Ben in construction and worked on a pig farm with his father-in-law Verl. He was a grounds keeper for BYU and worked for Spanish Fork City as a heavy equipment operator twice during his career. He retired from Spanish Fork City after 25 years of employment.
In 1957 he met and fell in love with his sweetheart Donna Christopherson. They were married in the Salt Lake Utah Temple June 9, 1960. They went on to have four children, Edward Kay Barney Jr. (Debbie) of Lehi Utah, Melvin Arthur Barney (Doreen) of Spanish Fork Utah, Donna Jean Fox (Larry) of Spanish Fork Utah, and Tammy Lou Bush (Eric) of Syracuse Utah. They spent 53 years as best friends and eternal companions. She preceded him in death in October 2013. They leave a legacy of 19 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in various callings throughout his life. He loved to serve others. Ted had many hobbies. He was hard working, loved gardening, fixing up cars, taking walks, and collecting Coca Cola memorabilia. He had an amazing memory and was able to share detailed stories of his life experiences. His sense of humor was enjoyed by all that met him.
Ted loved his family so much and would do anything for them. His little sis Lorraine Jensen is his only surviving sibling. He is preceded in death by his father Melvin, mother Sarah, and siblings; LaVaughn Grey, Arlene Jackson, Helen Ingalsbe, Ray Barney, Ben Barney, David Barney, and granddaughter Kaitlyn Barney.
We appreciate the loving care Bristol Hospice provided for Ted the last few weeks of his life. A viewing will be held Saturday June 3rd from 9:30 am to 10:45 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 275 South 1400 East Spanish Fork Utah. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am immediately following the viewing and interment will follow at Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
