Edith Jane Tolman Digeno was born September 17, 1935 in Salem, Utah, to Foster Lyman Tolman and Beulah Mary Hatch Tolman. She was the 7th of 13 children in her family and was raised in Salem. Growing up she helped her mother with household chores and caring for her younger siblings. At age 16, she received training in cosmetology and worked in her aunt’s shop. Her next job was as a waitress. She worked as a waitress most of her life.
She married Edward “Tony” Dalessio on November 30, 1965. They lived in New Jersey and raised Terry. Tony served in the Navy until his death in 1969. She moved to Phoenix and started working at the Red Devil as a waitress. That is where she met Joseph “Joe” Digeno, owner of the Red Devil Italian Restaurant. They married on April 16, 1973. They raised Edith’s son, Terry, and Joe’s son Joe Jr. Together Edith and Joe managed the Red Devil until they retired. Edith and Joe liked to travel together. Some of their favorite trips were Italy and Alaska. After Joe got sick, she was his dedicated caregiver until he passed away in 2005. Edith moved back to Salem, Utah in 2006.
She loved cooking, reading, and crocheting hats for family and neighbors. She donated many hats to those in need. She loved growing her rose garden and was very proud of it. She also grew vegetables and fruits, sharing the abundance with others.
Edith was loved by family and friends! We loved hearing stories about her life experiences! We all enjoyed her kindness and mischievous wit and humor!
Edith is survived by her son, Terry Jaeger, and her stepson, Joseph Digeno. Brothers & sisters: Pete (Arlene) Tolman, Karren Andersen, Alta (Joe) Russell, Calvin (Nancy) Tolman, Linda Earls, & Dennis (Julie) Tolman.
She was preceded in death by husbands Tony Dalessio & Joseph Digeno, siblings: Max, Foster, Beverly, Elaine, Gene, & Rhea.
We appreciate all her family, friends, neighbors, and hospice/healthcare workers who supported her.

December 5, 2024 at 11:35 pmEdith was an absolute joy to be around. Our ward family is honored to call her friend. She shared her cherry trees with anybody crazy enough to climb a ladder and pick them. Edith welcomed young and old into her home and into her life. She loved having visitors and the visitors were made the richer by their interactions. She was a story teller, for sure….just not sure which stories were accurate. They were always hilarious and showed the vivacious personality she possessed throughout her life.
