On September 4, Edie Swan passed away peacefully at her home in Mapleton, surrounded by family. Edie was born to C. Mark Percival and Janette Vincent on 9 March, 1960, in Provo, UT.
The oldest of four children, Edie was a nurturing caregiver to her younger siblings from an early age. Going on camping and river trips with her father (often with a troop of Boy Scouts) instilled in her a deep love of nature, especially the landscapes of the desert Southwest. She graduated from Manzano High School in Albuquerque, NM, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University. Edie was a teacher for the LDS Church Educational System and was a lifelong learner, especially of religion and scripture.
Edie married Scot Swan, her “Sweetwater Man,” on September 4, 1981, and was the devoted mother of five children. She regularly took her family, friends, and church groups on guided tours through Arches National Park and the Grand Canyon. After her struggles and many surgeries for Chiari malformation, Edie also started the Utah Chiari Support Group, which has provided information, support, and assistance to hundreds of people afflicted with that condition.
Edie is survived by her husband, Scot, her five children: Lauren Swan Pollock, Brian Swan, Matthew Scot Swan, Phillip Swan, and Andrew Swan, as well as 10 grandchildren, with one on the way.

September 6, 2025 at 3:22 amEdie made a profound impact on me when we were young mothers and she served in the Bonneville Stake Young Women’s presidency with me many years ago. She also introduced me to the incredible world of the great outdoors as we hiked the Grand Canyon together. She was always an incredible example in every aspect of life.

September 9, 2025 at 6:55 pmI knew Edie only briefly but she made a profound impact on my life. I was introduced to Edie after receiving my Chiari Malformation diagnosis and she was the one to encourage me to pursue surgery with a specialist in Rhode Island opposed to staying with surgeons in Utah. I will forever be grateful for her guidance and advice as it likely prolonged my life and added to the success of my brain surgery. Edie would often send me uplifting messages and encouragement as we both battled a world of pushing through pain and daily suffering. She is a remarkable human and I will forever be grateful to be blessed by her light and love.
