Dora Lillian Harrington Ashmore passed away November 12, 2022 at the age of 90 in Mapleton, Utah. Dora was born to Bryan McKinley Harrington and Annie Jane Hurst on January 24, 1932 in Bellingham, Washington.

Dora’s family moved to California when she was eight years old and that is where she spent her school years. She graduated from John Marshall High School in June of 1950. Many of the classes she took involved secretarial skills which she loved, and led into her career as a secretary. She worked many years at Motorola Corporation and retired as an Executive Secretary there. Dora’s childhood was very happy; she was very close to her parents and knew how much they loved her. She adored her brother even though he teased her mercilessly! She was close to her grandparents, aunts and uncles as well and often their vacations were spent together with them.

She met the love of her life while on a double date with someone else, but after getting to know Charles (Chuck) Warren Ashmore (the guy with her friend)…she was smitten! They were together from then on until his passing four years ago. He died one month before their 69th wedding anniversary and she has missed him every day since then. They had four children together, Jim, Lynda, Terri and Joel, whom they raised in California.

Extended family get-togethers were a big part of her life and she enjoyed spending time with all of her nieces and nephews who lovingly called her “Aunt Dodie”. Dancing was something Dora relished, taking classes and dreaming of being a professional, unfortunately because of health issues she couldn’t continue…but she missed it greatly. She watched many a movie with singing and dancing to make up for it! She also loved western movies, an influence from her father, moments they shared together. Dora spend many an hour knitting or crocheting socks, tablecloths or afghans and had an immense talent; intricate patterns and beautiful stitches always. She made countless baby blankets and wedding afghans, cherished by all who received them.

Dora had a great testimony of her Savior Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was taught the gospel at the feet of her mother, who she said was her shining example of faith, love, service and endurance. She held many callings both on a Ward and Stake level, but the calling she loved most of all was being an Ordinance worker and serving in the Seattle Washington Temple. She loved her time spent there with Chuck and their love grew stronger as they served together. The 2-hour drive there and back she never considered a sacrifice, but a blessing to be able to do it. She and Chuck also served a mission together at the Nauvoo Illinois Temple.

Dora was an honored daughter, a much-teased sister, a cherished spouse, an adored aunt, a precious mother, a revered grandmother, and a loved great-grandmother. She loved to tease (her brother taught her well) and be silly at times especially with her great-grandkids. She loved to have fun and had a great sense of humor. She kept everyone laughing and her dimpled smile was infectious. Her humor will be missed here on earth, but we know if anyone in heaven asks how she feels, she will no doubt respond, “With my hands!”

Dora was preceded in death by her parents Bryan and Annie Harrington, her brother Henry (Hank) Harrington, her Great-Granddaughter Haylee Wolten and her beloved husband of 68 years Charles Ashmore. She is survived by her children, Jim (Charlene) Ashmore, Lynda (Paul) Modrell, Terri (Jim) Heywood and Joel (Rhonda) Ashmore, as well as 22 Grandchildren and 57 Great-Grandchildren.

A heartfelt thank-you to the staff at Spring Gardens Assisted Living, and Yarrow Hospice to those who lovingly cared for, and comforted our sweet Dora this past year.
