Dolores Volk Waggoner June 12, 1936 - March 19, 2025

Dolores Volk Waggoner, age 88, peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father on March 19, 2025. She was born June 12, 1936 in Inglewood, California to Frank Xavier Volk Jr. and Dora Evelyn Graham. She married her loving husband, Robert LeRoy Waggoner on August 16, 1969 who preceded her in death in 2001.

Dolores was known as Dee, Mom, Grandma, and Aunt Susie. She loved and cared for her family and was proud of her children and their accomplishments. Dolores was always the first one who shared the good news of the family with everyone. She was one to keep her commitments and would always follow through with any task she was given. Dolores had an incredible memory and could remember birth dates and special anniversaries of all her children and grandchildren. Serving her family was a joy to her.

Throughout her life, Dolores loved serving in the Relief Society and would spend hours serving those around her whether it be baking cookies or ministering to those in need. She loved serving as the Relief Society President several times in her Spanish Fork ward. Dolores knew the power of prayer. In times of trials, everyone knew that Grandma Dee was praying for them which gave great comfort to our family.

Dolores loved living in Spanish Fork and was always grateful for the beautiful landscape that surrounded her. She would often say how blessed she was to live in such a wonderful place. Dolores enjoyed her bird feeders on her patio and watching the deer wander through her yard. She was the heart of our family–life here on earth won’t be the same without her. She loved her parents and was proud of her pioneer heritage.

We can imagine the grand reunion she is having with those who have gone on before her, including her parents, her two brothers, Marvin and Ronald, and stepson Craig. She was truly a noble and great one who endured to the end. Our families here on earth will be forever grateful to have called her our loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Dolores is survived by her four children: Laurie (John) Padget, Sandy, Utah; Donna (Bradley) Hall, currently serving a mission in Laie, Hawaii; Susan (Greg) Jurkatis, Spanish Fork, Utah; and David (Steffani) Waggoner, Spanish Fork, Utah; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and her loving companion, her cat Sparky.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, from 11:30-12:30 pm at Walker Funeral Home in Spanish Fork, Utah. Following the viewing, a graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm at Spanish Fork City Cemetery.

We are grateful to Maple Creek Home, Health and Hospice and Legacy House Spanish Fork for their love and care on our mother’s behalf.

We at Legacy House will miss this sweet lady so much. I was so sad to hear of her passing. I’m sure her loved ones were all so happy to welcome her home, though. It was a privilege to know her and I always enjoyed the brief interactions I was able to have with her when I passed her meds and of course, I always had to take a few seconds to say hi to Sparky. :).

My condolences on the passing of your mother! She was such a loving person, and gave a lot of service to our family as my visiting teacher. When our family was young she was my visiting teacher for several years. There were many times she showed up out of the blue only because she had received a prompting that I needed help. Every time she did this it was when I truly needed help in some way. She was my ministering angel, and such an amazing example to me of how to also serve!

I’m sure your hearts are broken and so sad at this time with her passing. I remember either President Monson or Elder Oaks or one of the general authorities saying at one time “To take the sadness out of death, you’d have to take LOVE out of life.” I know we truly want love in life. This statement has always brought comfort to me when losing a loved one, I hope it helps you as well. I wish you the very best while grieving to be comforted by the Holy Spirit. I’ll pray for all of you!

Hello, my name is George Oldfield. I am a childhood friend of Dolores and I live in Riverside California. I just learned of her passing. We had been in touch by phone recently and I’m not quite sure how we reconnected a few years ago but we did. I happened to have obtained my first job out of high school when I was visiting her sister in Westchester, L.A. I called her, said hello and we talked about having graduated and that I was looking for a job. I hung up the phone and almost immediately it rang. That was a very very significant moment in my young life. Dolores said “I talked to my father and he said he would give you a job at the factory.” I worked there a summer and a fall, then started my college career at Chaffey in Ontario, California. Another summer, I worked with them while still in college and eventually married, finished college, took a job in Riverside at a federal agricultural lab, and then proceeded on to obtain my PhD. Years later after that, I happened to visit Fallbrook, California where Dolores’s brother Marvin was raising avocados. Dolores’s brother put me on the phone with her, now living in Utah, and we had a very nice conversation. I didn’t connect with her again for many years…then a few years ago after an Inglewood high school reunion we connected by phone and continued to do so until I learned of her passing just recently. My memories of Dolores are just that she was a very nice person. I send to any members of her family, the most extreme condolences.
    Love to all,
    George Newton Oldfield.
