Dolan N. Sorensen, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2025, in Saratoga Springs, Utah, at the age of 87.
Dolan was born on August 7, 1938, in Provo, Utah, to Christian M. and Netta Christiansen Sorensen. He grew up in Mapleton and Springville, Utah, and later lived in Watsonville, California, before settling in Saratoga Springs. He graduated from Springville High School. He completed vocational training in welding and blacksmithing in the military, skills that would serve him well throughout his life.
In 1957, Dolan proudly enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Company C, 84th Engineers Battalion as a Specialist Fourth Class (SP4-E4) until 1960. He continued his service in the Army Reserves until 1963. His military assignments took him to Aberdeen, Maryland; Fort Ord, California; and Pusan, Korea, experiences that shaped his discipline and dedication.
On September 3, 1963, Dolan married the love of his life, Cheryl A. Niemi, in the Manti, Utah Temple. Together they built a life filled with devotion, adventure, and family.
Dolan’s career reflected his strong work ethic and craftsmanship. He worked at Anderson Mattress Factory in Freedom, California (1963–1965), Wiebe Manufacturing in Hollister, California (1965–1982), and later at Phillips Medical Systems in Pleasanton, California (1982–2005), where he contributed to innovations in medical technology until his retirement.
Beyond his professional and military accomplishments, Dolan was deeply involved in civic and community service. He participated in the PTA, served with the Boy Scouts of America—earning his Woodbadge—and volunteered with VIPS (Volunteers in Police Service) in Saratoga Springs. His faith was central to his life. He served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Denmark from 1960 to 1963, as Bishop of the Watsonville Ward in Watsonville, California, as a High Councilman in the Monterey and Santa Cruz, California stakes, as a Young Single Adult Branch Counselor in Santa Cruz, and as a home teacher and ministering brother.
Dolan loved fishing, cheering for the San Francisco 49ers, tinkering and fixing things, hunting, and family road trips. A favorite destination being Yosemite. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his family.
He leaves behind his wife, Cheryl Sorensen; his children Daniel (Christina) Sorensen of North Las Vegas, NV; Jodi (Larry) Austin of Leander, TX; and Steven (Sheila) Sorensen of Saratoga Springs, UT. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his sister Utahna Summerhays of Washington, UT. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers, and two sisters.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to Canyon Health Care and Hospice, Seniors Helping Seniors, and the VA in Salt Lake City, Utah, for their compassionate care and support.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 13, 2025 at the Jacobs Ranch Building located at 267 West Weatherby Dr. in Saratoga Springs, Utah. A visitation will begin that morning at 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and the funeral will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
