Dixie Lee Garbe, age 84, returned to her Heavenly Father on January 19, 2022, after a courageous and valiant eight-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Dixie was born on July 31, 1937, the 7th of 8 children, born to Lester and Ethel Hansen in Ephraim, Utah.
Dixie married her High School Sweetheart, Gaylen F Garbe, from Manti on November 20, 1954. They were sealed in the Manti Temple on November 20, 1971. They recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. They were blessed with 5 beautiful children.
In the early years of their marriage, they lived in several different cities. They finally settled in Spanish Fork, where they raised their children. In 1997 they moved to Washington County and lived in Lava Bluff and St. George. In 2018, they returned to Utah Valley and purchased a home in Salem, to be closer to their family.
Dixie is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings. Her favorites were teaching the Sunbeams in Primary and working in the library. Gaylen and Dixie also served a mission together at the cannery in St. George, Utah.
Dixie also worked at several different community establishments in the Spanish Fork area including the Ideal Café, Roy’s/Will’s Foodland, Salem Merc, Fritzi, and Christensen’s Department Store which later became known as MacAnthony’s.
Dixie loved to crochet and was a talented seamstress. She sewed most of her own clothes and most of her children’s clothing as they were growing up. She could make them look just like the popular store-bought styles of the day. She was especially good at creating prom dresses and wedding dresses.
Dixie is survived by her sweetheart, Gaylen; and by her 5 children: Debbie (Chris) Hales, Lake Shore, Utah; Kevin (Kathryn) Garbe, Provo, Utah; Gerald Garbe, Draper, Utah; Gayle (Robert) Davies, Spanish Fork, Utah; Melinda (Jesse) Stickney, Santaquin, Utah. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren, one brother, Larry Hansen, Los Altos, California; and one sister, Bonnie Peel, Salem, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Connie Larue; and four brothers: Phillip, Jerry, Lester Burke, and Teral.
The family would like to thank Tender Care Home Health & Hospice. Special thanks to Harley and Lexie.
