Dean Fred Olsen August 31, 1934 - October 12, 2021

Dean’s Obit – Written by him on December 4, 1996; revised September 28, 2014

Born August 31st, 1934

Past October 12th, 2021

“Though lacking a bit, in wit, I admit, it was I, hopefully not deemed a twit, as I write this obit!

Please do not fret, lest we forget why this wonderful day, you (We!) have met.  While this is one life’s termination; it is also time for celebration.  Naming numerous individuals who positively influenced my life would cause me to boisterously whistle, it would inevitably make this obit an epistle.

Every step along the way, up to, and including (date of death), I express my heart felt appreciation to those whose companionship, friendship and love paved my way: Rosalie, My devoted companion, Best Friend and Wife of 61 years, Children LeAnn, Julie, Lisa, Scott and David.

It goes without saying I will miss and envy family members and friends who are staying. What an inspiring and great ride for the past 87 years my life has been, on our farm in Brigham City, Utah, Box Elder High School, US Army, USU and State Farm Insurance Company’s.

I found during my 30-year State Farm Insurance career, numerous exciting, rewarding opportunities, domestic and foreign travel were abounding. Eight years as Springville and Mapleton Cities Justice Court Judge compelled me to adhere to the applicable law, be decisive and not budge.  As a novice to this opportunity the following seemed very appropriate and necessary: “The proper way for me to grow as a person, and as a judge, is to surround myself with people smarter than I; believe me they were in abundance!”      I fondly recollect serving 8 years as a member of Springville’s city council retiring December 31, 2015.

As a student at Box Elder High School, a scholar I was not; attending Utah State University in the late fifties, and early sixties, I was fortunate to associate with numerous brighter fellow students, from whose positive influence and intellect I vicariously benefited.

I must close this chapter of my life by expressing how grateful I am for having been born in America, raised on a farm in Brigham City, Utah and to experience such a wonderful and exciting existence. God Bless America! Freedom is definitely worth fighting and dying for!!”

Proceeded in death by his parents, Pat and Ben Olsen; son, David Grant Olsen; granddaughter, Kelsey Nichole Anderson; and great-granddaughter, Auni Ray Naulu.

Dean is survived by his wife, Rosalie Olsen; daughter, LeAnn (Mark) Anderson; daughter, Julie Olsen; daughter, Lisa (Joel) Neiswender; son, Scott D. Olsen; and son, Mark Dubach Olsen. Grandchildren Jessica (Alex) Sipherd, Caitlin (Dallan) Naulu, Jamie (Kevin) Hoffman, Jennie (Travis) Baker, Kaylee (Justin) Bowers, Rio Olsen, Sadie Woeste. So sorry for your loss. Judge Olsen was a phenomenal man. He will always hold a special place in my heart. He married my husband and I nearly 19 years ago. I will never forget his words to us and reflect on them often. My thoughts are with your family at this time.

I was very fortunate to have crossed paths in this life with Dean, from the first day I met him while I was a Springville City employee and on every occasion we met for a city meeting, for lunch, at the golf course or just coinciding shopping at the grocery store, he taught me something, we laughed uncontrollably and we enjoyed each other’s opinions. I mourn with all of you because this great human being is no longer with us in body, but I know that all of us will never forget you Dean.
