David Raymond Petrulsky Sr. April 24, 1946 - March 4, 2022

Our beloved David peacefully passed away on March 4, 2022 surrounded by his family members and friends.

David was born in McAdoo, Pennsylvania on April 24, 1946 to Anthony Petrulsky Sr. and Mary (Didick) Petrulsky. He attended Hazleton High School and Vocational School, Class of 1964.

After serving in the United States Army in Vietnam, Dave was honorably discharged as a Private First Class in December 1967. While there he received the Good Conduct Medal-First Award, National Defense Service Medal-First Award, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge. David was also a member of the American Legion and VFW.

Once returning home, he spent his adult life working in the local area moving his way up into the role of a master butcher, starting at Krisel Meats and Reading Specialty Meats until retiring from Giant Foods. Prior to that, he worked at Casale and Clementi Cheese Factory in Hazleton.

Dave was a die-hard Eagles and Phillies fan who enjoyed traveling on family vacations, playing softball and playing in the fingers league in his earlier years. He was an avid hunter and loved hunting at “The Hollow” in McAdoo. Some of his favorite local places were Jimmy’s Hot Dogs and 3rd Base Subs along with Senape’s Pitza. He also loved his family and friends from the McAdoo Hotel, Hillcrest Pizza, Cara’s Bar, Bunny’s Lounge, Fireside Lounge, 4th Street Pub, and the Dog House Saloon.

He spent his retirement watching classic westerns and war movies, nurturing his pet birds, and spending time with family and friends. He was known for his great sense of humor, taste in classic cars and juke box song selections, as well as for always toasting the important moments in life.
After living in Pennsylvania all his life, he decided to relocate to the Wasatch mountains of Utah to be more comfortable in his later years at the Mervyn Sharp Bennion Veterans Home.
David was preceded in death by life partner Janet Simchock; children, David Petrulsky Jr. and Michael “Hoagie” Petrulsky; parents, Anthony Petrulsky Sr and Mary Didick; brother, Robert Petrulsky; and Kathryn Merenda who was mother of his children Raymond and David Jr.

He is survived by his sister Jacqueline Shickora of Tresckow, brother Anthony Petrulsky of McAdoo and sister-in-law Dolores Petrulsky of McAdoo. He is also survived by his son Raymond Petrulsky of Salt Lake City, Utah and his daughter Michele Lynn Petrulsky of West Hazleton along with his stepchildren Reverend Shawn Simchock and Tara (Simchock) Arner; his grandchildren, Keely (Petrulsky) Winemiller, Brannon Petrulsky and Desiree White; great-grandchildren, Kevin Ray Winemiller, Matthew Alan Winemiller, and three others; Rosemarie Petrulsky, who is mother to his children Michele and the late Michael; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

The family would like to sincerely thank all who have reached out and those who made impressions upon his life. David’s love and sense of humor will be passed down for generations to come.
