David Ivin Hardy of Payson, Utah passed away on Tuesday September 2, 2025, in Payson, Utah.
Born in Burley, Idaho, May 26, 1947, Dave was the fourth child of Jay & Leah Hardy. Their family, which eventually grew to nine children, moved frequently around the mountain west during Dave’s youth, living in Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, and eventually southern California. Dave served a mission for the LDS church in Georgia and South Carolina and later graduated from BYU with a degree in business and economics. After graduation, he moved to southern California, where he met Linda Murray at a church singles activity in 1972, and they married in April 1973 in the Provo LDS temple.
On New Years Eve 1973-1974, Linda and Dave relocated to Salt Lake City, where all four children were born in Cottonwood Hospital in Murray, Utah. The family moved to Ohio with a job transfer in 1987, and then relocated again to Houston, Texas in 1989, where they would remain until Dave’s retirement in 2013. In Dave’s accounting career, his longest tenure and his retirement was with Akzo Nobel as plant controller. After retiring and moving to Utah County, Dave took a job driving crews for the railroad, which he thoroughly enjoyed, as driving in the mountains was one of his favorite activities.
Dave was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints his entire life, serving in many varied positions including Elders Quorum President, Ward Clerk, Executive Secretary, Bishopric counselor, Stake High Council, and most recently teaching Primary Valiant 8 class along with Linda.
Dave’s quiet demeanor and calm personality provided strength and stability to the family and friends. He has always been generous, funny, kind, organized, brilliant, and patient. He loved the mountains and enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing. He loved playing board games with his kids & grandkids, completing puzzles, and playing word and logic games. He will be greatly missed.
Dave is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda Murray Hardy; children Angie (Mitch) Borne, Janelle (Stephen) Cluff, and Chuck Hardy; grandchildren Tori, Liz, Kathleen, and Abbey Cluff; and siblings Lyle Hardy, Louise Fitches, Lorraine Searle, Carolyn Escujuri, and Darlene Hales.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents Jay & Leah Hardy; daughter Kimberly Hardy; and siblings Kathy Ricks, Dale Hardy, and Helen McKague.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider a donation in Dave’s honor to the National Park Service Foundation, the American Heart Association, or the American Diabetes Association.
