The Man. The Myth. The Legend. David Gene Benson retired from caring for all of us on November 27, 2025, at the age of 74. He gave so much of his heart throughout his life that it finally wore itself out. David passed peacefully in the loving arms of his wife of 48 years, Jo.
Born June 6, 1951, in St. George, Utah, David was blessed with two sets of parents: Ken & JoAnn Benson and Bob & Barbara Nicklason. As the second oldest of eight children, he quickly earned the title of “Chosen One,” keeping his mothers on their toes and teaching them the art of parenting. His giant heart and wise counsel made him the natural patriarch of the family.
David proudly graduated as an Orem Tiger in the class of 1969. He never missed an opportunity to remind friends and family that he and his teammates claimed the state football championship, securing their place in local sports history.
For more than 35 years, David built a thriving construction business in Utah Valley. Through B&B Roofing & Foundations, he left behind a legacy of craftsmanship and pride. Driving through the valley, he loved pointing out the homes he had built, each one a testament to his dedication to creating spaces for families to grow and thrive.
An avid bow hunter, David found joy in the outdoors and in sharing his adventures with anyone willing to listen. He passed down this passion to his children and grandchildren, traveling the world to hunt, explore, and forge lifelong friendships along the way.
David is survived by his devoted wife, Jo Hamilton Benson; his four children—Nikki Farnsworth, Jason Benson, Mandy (Trace) Myers, and Justin Benson; his mother, JoAnn Benson; his father, Bob Nicklason; seven siblings; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Ken Benson, and mother, Barbara Nicklason.
True to his wishes, there will be no funeral service. Instead, family and friends are invited to join in a Celebration of Life on December 6, 2025, from 1:00–4:00 PM at Sparks Museum and Event Center, 4134 W Center St, Provo, UT. Please come casually dressed and ready to share stories of the man we will always remember as The Man, The Myth, The Legend.
