Upland, California – David Brockbank Thorn, age 56, beloved father, son, brother and friend passed away on June 4, 2019. He was born April 4, 1963 in Provo, Utah to Robert Paul Thorn and Norma Brockbank Thorn.
David grew up in the towns of Orem, Salt Lake City, and Bountiful, Utah. During his later elementary grades and early middle school years, he accompanied his parents to South Africa for three years, where they presided over a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He later returned to South Africa to serve as a full time missionary for two years.
Following his mission service, David owned and operated his own landscaping company in Connecticut for several years and later moved to Southern California where he found his niche in the RV business. He became a very talented and successful manager and made many wonderful lifetime friends. He will be remembered as a supportive, caring and generous colleague and friend.
David was truly the light in a room! People were drawn to his warmth and friendly personality. He had a hearty laugh, an infectious and ever-present smile and loved to have fun. He could turn anything into an enjoyable and memorable time.
His crowning achievement in life was his title of dad to his incredible children, Jonathan and Madeline. Everyone who knew David knew he loved his kids. No one or anything brought greater joy to him than they did. Jonathan and Maddie cherished daily contact with their dad. They loved being with him, traveling with him and counseling with him. Happy memories of riding bikes at the beach, day-trips to Disney Land, hiking in national parks and snorkeling in Cabo are treasured memories.
He will now be watching them from heaven and cheering for their happiness and success. Wherever his path in life took him, whatever challenges he faced, his love of family was powerful and constant. Fiercely loyal, he cared and shared with his family and with his friends.
He is survived by his children, Jonathan and Madeline of Upland, California; his 90 year old mother, Norma Thorn of Bountiful, Utah; sisters Michelle (Mike) Dudley of Chesapeake, Virginia; and Camille (Eric) Hansen of Cameron Park, California; 10 nieces and nephews and lots of extended family. He was preceded in death by his father Robert Paul Thorn, and sister Marilyn.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 9, 11 a.m. at Walker Mortuary, 187 So Main, Spanish Fork, Utah. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Springville.
