Darrell Ray Pruitt passed away peacefully Wednesday February 8th, 2023 in Elk Ridge Utah. Darrell is the son of Kenneth and Marietta Pruitt of Spanish Fork. Darrell was born November 3rd, 1963 in Topeka Kansas. After moving to Butte Montana for a few years, his family moved to Spanish Fork Utah where he grew up. Darrell had a deep love for his home town of Spanish Fork, where he had a wonderful childhood. He graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1981. Darrell loved all sports, but his greatest love was for baseball. He played as a young boy in little league, but his favorite thing was to play in “Little Chicago” with his neighborhood friends and his younger brother Eddie. Many hours were spent between Darrell and Eddie playing ball together.
Darrell went on to play baseball in High School where he excelled. Darrell played for Dixie State and Southern Utah University where he was then drafted by the Chicago White Sox. During this time he played for the Birmingham Alabama Barons and the Chattanooga Tennessee Lookouts.
During his time there he was named an All-Star, and won two championships. He sustained a shoulder injury while playing which ultimately ended his baseball career.
Darrell had a passion for coaching, and he had the opportunity to coach many young men. He could pump up anyone and loved sharing his knowledge of the game, while finding a way to connect with those he coached.
Darrell loved spending time outdoors and in nature. He also loved to spend time golfing with his friends and brother. His circle of friends were very important to him and were a great blessing in his life, he always looked forward to spending time with them.
Darrell was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. When he was a young man he gained an interest in the church. He sought out the LDS missionaries and invited them to come to their home. Later he and his family were baptized into the church. Darrell continued throughout his life to have a deep love for God and his Savior.
Darrell had a laugh that was contagious, and he could make a game out of anything. Often something as simple as a game of homerun derby could be turned into the World Series.
Darrell was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for his friends and family. His love for cooking came from his mother Marietta.
Darrell loved his children and grandchildren. He was so proud of them and the accomplishment they have made in their life. Darrell loved his parents and siblings and loved spending time with them.
Darrell is survived by his children: Jessica (Josh) Anderson Tooele UT, Ashley Skinner (KC) Herriman Ut, Nathan Pruitt, South Jordan UT, and Easton Pruitt, Salem UT. He is survived by his parents: Kenneth and Marietta Pruitt Spanish Fork UT, his brother Eddie Pruitt (Lisa) Spanish Fork UT and his sister Kelly Pruitt Thornton of Spanish Fork UT.
Services will be held at the Spanish Fork 6th Ward Chapel, located at 585 North Main Street, Spanish Fork, Utah on Wednesday February 15th, viewing from 9:45-10:45 funeral at 11:00. There will also be a viewing the night before Tuesday February 14th, at the Spanish Fork 6th ward chapel from 6-8.

February 14, 2023 at 3:25 pmI believe the absolute true love of Baseball lived within Darrell.
I lived near the Pruitt’s as a young girl. It seemed that ever summer day the older “boys” would head over to a park within the block they called “Little Chicago” Obviously no girls were allowed there, so Kelly and I were outed from going, so we would sit behind the shrubs and watch the boys from the neighborhood play ball for hours! There is great sadness for Kenny, Marietta, Eddie and Kelly, but especially for Darrell’s children. You are in my thoughts and prayers always.
