Collette L. Bergeron November 3, 2019

Collette L. Bergeron passed away peacefully Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Legacy House in Spanish Fork, Utah, in the company of her three daughters.

She is survived by her children and grandchildren: Camilla and David Spackman and their 6 children; Dale B. and Ann Bergeron; Gigi and Kevin Jones and their 9 children; Sarah and Scott Horton and their 3 children; Alan (from a previous marriage) and 1 child and wife Karla Steed. She is also survived by 49 great grandchildren.

Collette was born August 13, 1927 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was the only child who lived to adulthood of Alice and Mathew Lyon. As a child one of her cherished memories was attending Mormon Tabernacle Choir practice with her mother, and getting to sit on the corner of the organ bench while her mother sang. Later the family moved to Rochester, Minnesota, where she attended high school, and during that time she served as the mascot for the local hockey team. She then went on to study at the University of Minnesota. While attending the University she met and married Dale Bergeron and together they had 4 children and were divorced after 24 years of marriage.

Collette’s biggest passion in life was her love for the Lamanite people. She worked for over 50 years with the Indian Placement Program and the American Indian Services where she worked tirelessly raising money for youth college scholarships and severing on the board.

While she lived in California, she had a business selling wild rice to restaurants in the area until the family moved to Rapid City, South Dakota. While in Rapid City she ran for the School Board, and later she moved to Utah which allowed her to be able to spend more time going to the temple as often as her could.

Some of her interests included tennis, Ballroom dancing, designing her jewelry and she was an enthusiastic shopper with a good eye for quality—not to mention a good deal. Collette also enjoyed her genealogy and temple work.

Over the years she held many positions from Primary President to teaching Sunday School. Collette came from a heritage of pioneers and always tried to live her religion as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

A private family memorial will be held in Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, a contribution could be made in Collette’s name to the American Indian Services program at BYU.
