Coleen Tew Johns, 90, of Spanish Fork, Utah passed away surrounded by her family on May 2, 2025. Coleen was born on April 4, 1935, in Mapleton, Utah to Bryan and Blanche Tew. Coleen was the fifth of seven children. She was raised in Mapleton, Utah and attended and graduated from Springville High School. Coleen was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
She married Roy Losser Johns of Spanish Fork on July 30th, 1955. They were later sealed in the Manti LDS Temple. The two of them celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in July of 2024. They had six children. Terry (who died at the age of 7), Connie (who died at birth), Kristine, Donald, Russell, and Diana.
Coleen’s biggest joys in life were spending time with her sweetheart, Roy, and her children and grandchildren. Coleen was full of fun and laughter and enjoyed going for rides, going shopping with her daughters and granddaughters, visits with family and friends, and playing just about any card game with her kids. She enjoyed the simple things in life such as grabbing lunch and enjoying it while sitting in the park and relaxing with Roy, and, also watching Hallmark movies with her favorite snacks, especially at Christmastime. She loved being outdoors and enjoyed sitting on the porch or patio listening to the birds sing to her. Coleen absolutely adored working in her yard with her beautiful flower gardens, and she always had the most beautiful roses around! Coleen and Roy always enjoyed sharing the delicious produce from their garden with others.
Coleen was a very hard worker and had a hard time sitting still for long. She used to ride along with Roy as he went out on his many jobs to take measurements for his welding/ornamental iron business and she was a great help to him. She thoroughly enjoyed being a wife, mother, and homemaker and did an amazing job at all these things. She kept an immaculate house and created a warm, comfortable, and inviting home for her family and anyone who visited. She was a wonderful cook and she made the most delicious meals! Many days her children returned home from school to the delicious aroma of fresh homemade bread, banana bread, oatmeal or chocolate chip cookies, or chocolate cream cheese cupcakes.
Coleen loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and was always there to support their many activities including baseball, softball, piano recitals, soccer, football, basketball, wrestling, dance, cheer, school programs, plays, stock shows, graduations, and many other things.
Coleen loved to serve in many different capacities. She served in many church callings over the years including Relief Society President, Primary President, Stake Primary President, PTA President, and many other callings of service. She was also a great support to Roy when he served as Bishop of the Spanish Fork 2nd Ward. She was a huge help to Roy as he was building and installing the fence around the Spanish Fork Cemetery. They donated all their time and labor to the city, and, also donated the eagles which sit at the front entrance to the cemetery. This was all done as a service to their beloved city and they enjoyed every minute of it. Coleen and her sweetheart, Roy served as missionaries at the Bishop’s Storehouse for ten years. Coleen and Roy always took opportunities to serve others where they could. They used to watch out for the elderly widows in their ward and neighborhood and would take them food, help them with things they needed, and would visit and check on them often. In recent years, Coleen and Roy delivered Meals on Wheels to the elderly and always enjoyed the friendships they made.
Coleen was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, her parents, Bryan and Blanche Tew, son,
Terry, daughter, Connie, son, Donald, brothers Donald, Clyde, and Ray, sisters Venetta and Wilma, grandson, Derek, and granddaughter, Whitney. She is survived by her daughter, Kristine, son, Russell, daughter, Diana, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her sister, Sharon.
