Clifford Hardy Funeral Service

Clifford “Kip” Allen Hardy, husband, father, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 following a brief illness.

Kip was born on January 2, 1944, in Warsaw, New York and grew up as the fourth of five children of Art and Neva Hardy. He had three older siblings, David, Mary Jane, and Richard, and one younger sister, Sue. As a boy, he grew up in Perry, New York and was always interested in cars, machines, track and field, and most athletics.

After graduating from Perry High School, Kip served a church building mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he was assigned to build meetinghouses for the church in the Idaho Falls area.

While in Idaho, Kip met Sharon Hinckley and as he would later put it, “after the mission, a group of us took a trip to California and I ended up engaged…still not sure how that happened. Next thing I knew, my parents were coming to Idaho from New York for a wedding.” Kip and Sharon were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on April 2nd, 1966.

America was on the verge of the Vietnam War during this time, and Kip had enlisted in the Air Force where he was to be stationed in New Jersey, so the newlyweds moved across the country to begin their lives together out East. Kip finished his military service in Texas before taking his young family back to Western New York to work in the HVAC industry.

Following a short stint in New York, Kip took a job with the HVAC department for Brigham Young University, and the slightly bigger, but still young family moved to Utah where Kip remained until his passing. Kip worked for BYU for over 30 years until his retirement.

Kip was an integral part of his community, where he served faithfully in the church in many callings including financial clerk, in the temple, for the bishop’s storehouse, as a primary and Sunday School, and most recently, and quite possibly his favorite, as ward librarian. He also served on the Volunteer Fire Department for Elk Ridge City, with the American Legion, and served in countless other ways. As everyone who knew him knows, one of his favorite pastimes was visiting with just about anyone. As a family, we’d like to express our sincerest appreciation to the many of you who took the time to talk with our dad, we know you probably had somewhere to be, or something to do, but we truly appreciate you taking the time out of your day to chat with him.

Kip is survived by Sharon, his wife of nearly 60 years. His older siblings David and Mary Jane, and all five children, Keith Hardy (Trevi), Cynthia Herrera (Tad), Christine Yorgesen (Jerry), Matthew Hardy (Rachel), and David Hardy (Chandra). He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Kip will be remembered by his hard work and dedication to family, friends, and the gospel, his larger-than-life personality, and all the life lessons learned from both conversation and example.

We’ll miss you so much.

Kip will always be remembered fondly as a sincere, devoted, hard-working high school classmate admired by all others while living in Perry, New York. His father suffered from polio. Kip helped him immensely as a young boy operate their family-owned gas station.

I’m so sorry to read about Cliff’s passing (I knew him as Cliff at BYU…I had no idea he went by Kip). I worked in the Clyde Building a long time ago and regularly called in HVAC problems for the College of Engineering and Technology–that building was a beast. At first, Cliff terrified me, and then I realized he was the nicest guy. I loved visiting with him when
