Chris Loveless, 50, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Payson, Utah, on Monday, July 1, 2024. Chris was born on March 1, 1974, in Payson, Utah, in the old hospital. Chris was the youngest child of Gerald David Loveless and Patricia Anne Kemble Loveless. Chris grew up in West Mountain, Utah, where he lived for about fourteen years. His family then moved to Payson where Chris continued to live for the remainder of his life.
Chis received his education from Wilson Elementary, Payson Middle School, Payson Junior High, and Payson High School. Chris’s hobbies consisted of fishing, hiking, horse riding, hunting, and all things outdoors. Chris enjoyed playing many sports growing up including baseball, soccer, football, and wrestling. When it came to wrestling, Chris had a love-hate relationship as many others in the family and those who have participated in the sport would agree. He started wrestling from a young age and continued to wrestle varsity all four years of high school. Chris was a captain on the Payson High School wrestling team and achieved 3rd and 4th place in the state wrestling tournament.
Chris graduated from Payson High in 1992 with honors and lettered in wrestling. He had a goal of becoming a high school teacher. Chris met his beloved wife and high school sweetheart, Mary, while attending Payson High. They were married on February 12, 1993, in Payson, Utah, and were sealed a year later in the Salt Lake Temple. They have four outstanding children, Zac, 30, Hagen, 28, Jed, 25, and Makell, 23.
Chris started working at the age of 14 doing concrete with his older brother Doug. Chris continued working in construction in order to provide for his family and to put himself through school at Brigham Young University and Utah Valley University. After earning his Bachelor’s degree in 2002, Chris finally met his goal of becoming a teacher. He was hired as a Computer Technology teacher at Payson High. At the same time, Chris started coaching for Payson High’s wrestling team and helped with Driver’s Education. Chris went on to earn his Master’s degree through Southern Utah University. After teaching for 9 years, Chris became the assistant principal at Payson High for another 7 years. Chris was admirably serving as the principal at Spanish Fork Jr. High when he passed.
In recent years, Chris enjoyed traveling, going to concerts, riding his motorcycles through Payson Canyon, paddleboarding, hiking, camping, cooking, and spending time with his family. Chris had a love for all animals, especially his dog Dewey, and being a Papa to his sweet grandkids.
Chris was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served diligently and honorably as a member of the bishopric, high council, and other positions in the church.
Chris is survived by his wife Mary Loveless, and his children; Zac (Meagen) Loveless, Hagen Loveless, Jed Loveless, and Makell (Tegan) Mortensen. His grandchildren; Cooper Loveless, Navy Loveless, Pepper Loveless, and Camden Loveless. His siblings; Dave Loveless, Doug (Annette) Loveless, Joe (Tammy) Slanec, Scott (Lana) Slanec, Mark Slanec, Margo Gabbott, Maria (Steve) Kaae, Jonathan (Tiffany) Loveless, and many others. Father and mother-in-law Carl and Nadine Marvin, and others.

July 5, 2024 at 7:14 pmI was an assistant wrestling coach at Springville High for 13 years. Chris wrestled for Payson High during that time. I always admired the tenacity with which Chris wrestled. It sounds like he gave that same energy and effort with all he did in life. When I learned Chris was a teacher and then an administrator, it was enjoyable to witness.
God bless you all. You will be with your husband, father, son, uncle and all the other titles again.

July 5, 2024 at 8:47 pmI didn’t know Chris well, but I remember the loveless brothers from a very early age. We may have gone to preschool together. Lol. Also, Wilson, PMS, PJHS and PHS. I was a fan of their athletic ability too. I was shocked to hear of Chris’ passing. My heart aches for Mary, his kids, and extended family. Sending love at this time to you all.

March 15, 2026 at 6:24 pmI was an intern teacher during the 2020-21 school year. It was a crazy year coming back from covid closures. Chris was an amazing principal during this time. He was so kind and concerned for the wellbeing of all of the students and his faculty. I appreciated his positive attitude and warmth. He made a difference in the lives of so many, including me as a new teacher. Though late, I was saddened recently to hear of his passing and my heart goes out to his family.
