Christine Young Gillespie, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all, passed peacefully on May 12, 2019 in Bountiful UT. Her family is grateful she is now free of pain and suffering.
Born on December 25, 1936 in Spanish Fork UT to W. Floyd and Ellen Warner Young. Chris graduated from Spanish Fork High School and later attended Stevens-Henager College. She married Harvey Douglas Gillespie of Tooele, Utah, although they later divorced, they had 4 children together.
Chris dedicated her life to serving her family and friends, including her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including 16 years in the Salt Lake temple where she made enduring friendships.
She enjoyed crafts, gardening and to the delight of many was a very talented baker and candy maker. In her younger years she enjoyed adventures, exploring and backpacking the less traveled areas of southern Utah with her father. She was always serving and ministering to others; making sure no one felt left out. A lover of pets, she cherished her many canine companions throughout her life.
Chris was employed with Centerville Police Department for 27 years from February 1975 until she retired in July of 2002. She enjoyed serving the residents of Centerville and loved the relationships with her co-workers. She has been and will always be missed by her Centerville Police Department family. Last year Centerville Police Department implemented the “Chris Gillespie Excellence Award” to recognize those who show excellence in service, Chris was the first recipient of this award.
