Cheryl Edwards was born on December 2, 1948 and passed away on March 8, 2025. She was the second child of John and Della Ure. Over the next twelve years, she would be fortunate enough to have four brothers and three sisters. Her parents lived in the home of her paternal grandparents in Salt Lake City until she was about four when they acquired their own home. She attended Libby Edwards elementary school, Evergreen Junior High School and Olympus High School. The two bedroom home was a little cramped with eight children. After becoming a mother of her own four children, Cheryl asked her Father if he ever felt like they had too many children in the house. He seemed a little surprised at the question and said, “No, I never did.”
After graduating from high school, Cheryl went to BYU. She worked part-time, sometimes, full-time taking night classes, and graduated with a degree in family science. Working part-time as an office manager for the Electronic Media Department allowed her to meet her future husband, Lynn Edwards. They dated for three years and finally married the day after Cheryl graduated. Cheryl continued to work full-time for almost a year until their first child was born.
She very much enjoyed being a full-time wife and mother. She remembers taking her first child everywhere she went. Walking with a stroller, riding a bicycle with a child seat over the back wheel—these were fun times.
She loved watching her children learn. She was always amazed at the capacity of each of her children to learn at a very young age. She made sure that each of her children had swimming lessons and music lessons. She remembers with great satisfaction, teaching her youngest child to tell time while they were eating lunch one day. She also remembers the love she felt when her oldest son, about two years old, came running into the kitchen, saying “Mommy, let me give you a hug.”
At some point in time, she realized that perhaps she didn’t give close enough attention in the BYU family science classes. She remembers disciplining her youngest daughter (age 3) by sending her to her room one day. After a little while the daughter called out, “Mommy.” Cheryl answered, “what” while still somewhat angry at the little girl. Her hearted melted when her daughter said, “I still love you.” She considered her opportunity to be a wife and mother one of the greatest blessings of her life.
When her youngest child was in high school, she met with the PTA and joined the school community council. She loved learning and wanted the education in her community to give each student the best opportunity possible.
She lived with gratitude for being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She gained experience and faith by teaching children in primary, young women, teaching in Relief Society and serving as a secretary to the Relief Society Presidency. She loved serving as a baptism coordinator in her ward.
If she could give a final message to her friends and loved ones, it would be found in the Book of Mormon Helaman 5:12. And she would say, “I know that a short period of mourning is normal and healthy, but do not mourn me for long, I will meet you again soon, rejoicing in the kingdom of heaven.”
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Lynn and her children Michelle, Mark (Lori), Wendy, and Matthew (Mary). She is also survived by her siblings Robert ((Dee), Keith, Myrna (Mitch) Curzon, Lynette, and Mike (Lisa). She was preceded in death by her brother Joel and her sister Barbara and her parents John and Della Ure.

March 13, 2025 at 5:13 amCheryl was such a sweet woman. She was always calling and checking in. She would share stories, the gospel, kind thought and offer help and prayers wherever she could. She could also chastise like a proper lady. 😉 I will miss you Cheryl.

March 20, 2025 at 9:17 pmFor a number of years, Cheryl and I traded off teaching adult Sunday School class. When I was at the front, her questions were sincere, direct and insightful. When she was at the front I knew the lesson and discussion would be excellent. The power of Cheryl’s testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ would stir your soul.
The goodness of the character and intelligence of their children is a direct reflection of the goodness and intelligence of Lynn and Cheryl.
May God grant your family peace and assurance until you all shall be reunited.
