Charleen Lewis Sump, of Spanish Fork, Utah passed away on Thursday, November 6 , 2025. Born on November 15 , 1942, in The Miner’s Hospital, Park City, Utah. She was the oldest daughter of Charles S. Lewis and Phyllis Hoover Lewis.
Charleen is survived by her loving husband John O. Sump, her three children Patricia (John DuBois), Brian (Wanda), and Ted, seven cherished grandchildren and five precious great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Palfreyman. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Charles Keith Lewis, and her son Scott Oran Sump.
In December 1945, at the age of three, her father Charles married Ida Baird, her beloved stepmother, who helped raise her with love and devotion. Years later, while working as a waitress in Yellowstone National Park, she met John Oran Sump- the beginning of a lifelong love story. Charleen often joked that she was married only once but went on 3 honeymoons; Charles and Ida’s, her own, and then her sister’s. John and Charleen were sealed for time and all eternity in 1962 at the Manti Temple. They celebrated 63 years together!
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and a faithful Christian, she dedicated her life to service and love for others. She and John served a senior mission in Florida and later spent 16 years serving together in both the Provo and Payson Temples.
She was gifted in many ways- a accomplished pianist, a talented seamstress, and an inspired traveler who delighted in exploring the world. Her journeys took her as far as Australia and New Zealand, though she held a special love for Hawaii. She also enjoyed attending plays and concerts and found joy in the arts.
Her professional life was just as full. She worked for a local furniture store in Wenatchee, Washington, owned and operated her own interior design business called The Decorators, and later managed several branches of Beehive Clothing/Church Distribution Center for 16 years.
Those who knew her will remember her love of nature- her fondness for hummingbirds, her joy in visiting the zoo, and her passion for gardening and beautifying spaces with flowers. Above all she was a true and loyal friend, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose warmth and kindness touched those she met.
A viewing will be held on Friday, November 14 , from 6 pm – 8 pm at Walker Funeral Home (187 S Main St, Spanish Fork, UT 84660).
A second viewing will take place on Saturday, November 15 , from 9:45 am to 10:45 am at Wolf Hollow Ward building 870 E. Canyon Road, Spanish Fork. Funeral services will proceed at 11 am. Internment following at Spanish Fork Cemetery.
