Carson was born November 6, 1940, in Payson, Utah, to Erwin Mert Spencer and Ruth Beck Spencer.
He graduated from Provo High School and attended Brigham Young University and Utah Technical College.
In his early career, Carson worked for Chemical Corporation, building the first stage of the Minuteman Missile. Other companies and agencies included Aerojet Corporation, Lear Avia, The Federal Aviation Administration, and Zero Defects. He later became a real estate Broker and real estate investor in Boise, ID. In this capacity, Carson owned numerous rentals and bought, refurbished and sold many other properties.
In 2003, he purchased a home in St. George, UT where he would spend the rest of his winters. Summers were spent in Boise and Donnelly, ID with his long-time partner, Cathy.
While in St. George, he learned to play a game called Pickleball. He eventually introduced the game in Boise, Meridian, Donnelly, Cascade and McCall, ID. As he established clubs and the game grew in these cities, he saw the need for locations to play. He worked with Boise Parks and Recreation and after seven years of fund raising and planning his vision was realized with a twelve-court dedicated pickleball complex in Boise.
Carson loved to travel and he and Cathy traveled throughout the U.S., Europe, the Caribbean, South America, and South Pacific. His favorite place was Switzerland where he visited twice.
Carson was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Spencer Wing (Art), and his son Tod Carson Spencer (Amanda) and their children and grandchildren. He has two surviving brothers, Jeff and Randy, and numerous nieces and nephews.
