After being apart for 60 years, our sweet mother reunited with her husband for eternity. Carol Ann White Hallam left her earthly home on July 13, 2022 at the age of 97.
She was born on April 15, 1925 to Clyde and Hazel White in Austin, Utah. Born at home prematurely at only 3 pounds, she began her fight for life. That has been her motto ever since, “I was ever a fighter, so—one fight more.”
Carol grew up in Wyoming where she excelled in debate receiving national honors. She continued her education at Brigham Young University, where she met Merrill J. Hallam in a Shakespeare class. They fell in love and were married in the Manti Temple. They were blessed with four children before Merrill’s death in 1962. Carol gave birth to a daughter a month later making 5 children whom she raised and nurtured alone.
Carol had a love of music. At the age of 8 she began to play the accordion and a few years later she learned to play the piano. She used her musical talents to perform for many civic and church groups but mostly loved playing for her family and friends. On warm summer evenings, she would go out on her porch and play her accordion. All the neighbors would come running to listen to her music.
Carol had a strong foundation and testimony in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many callings in the church but her favorites were teaching, playing the piano for the Singing Mothers, and being the chorister for the Junior Sunday School for which she served for decades.
She taught school for many, many years in Wyoming, Iowa and Spanish Fork, Utah. She taught in the regular classroom and later worked with the special education program. She has influenced numerous lives through her love of teaching.
Her love of gardening showed in her yard. People would come from all around to drive by her famous flower garden where she grew beautiful iris flowers and many other varieties. She worked in her yard well into her 90’s.
Carol’s greatest love was her family. She kept us close through her Easter Egg Hunts, Halloween Spook Alleys, Thanksgiving dinners and Christmas Eve parties. These celebrations have continued on through her grandchildren and great grandchildren. We all loved her and knew that she loved us.
Carol is survived by three of her children: Arne (Susan) Hallam, J. Merrill (Pam) Hallam, and Merrillyn (Kent) Clark, son-in-law Vic Robertson, 25 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merrill, daughter Jane Ann Partridge, daughter Janette Robertson, and son-in-law J. Lynn Partridge.
A celebration of her life will be held Monday, July 18, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church building located at 761 East 400 North, Spanish Fork, Utah. Family and friends may attend a visitation also at the church on Sunday, July 17, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and again at the church on Monday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services.

July 18, 2022 at 9:56 pmShe is so amazing! Praise the Lord that we have been blessed by her kindness, service, knowledge and love. She always called my children by their names and would ask about them year after year if she hadn’t seen them.
I also loved her stories, her memory was beyond belief!

July 19, 2022 at 9:08 amI spent a great deal of my childhood in her home. I was a friend of her son along with another young friend in the neighborhood. The three of us spent most of our spare time at one another’s house. As I look back now I realize what a remarkable woman Carol is. She had a profound influence on who I became. She overcame so many trials in such an amazing way. My greatest regret is that I did not go see her very often in her later years.
Her passing will have a huge impact on the family, but her positive influence will never cease to be a factor in so many lives that she touched. God bless all of you. I love this family!
