Carma June Morris Funeral Service

Carma June Sorenson Morris departed this world peacefully on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, due to health complications from Valley Fever. She was born in Murray, Utah on January 28, 1948, and was just shy of her 77th birthday.

Carma leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and understanding. Known for her warm and welcoming personality, Carma will be remembered as a woman who was kind, funny, quick-witted, silly, generous, giving, and nurturing by those who knew her. She lived by the belief that laughter is the best medicine and that life, being short, should be filled with fun and acts of kindness.

Carma grew up mostly as a California girl and graduated from Adrian Wilcox High School in Santa Clara, California in 1966. In 1969, she served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saint in Uruguay, South America. Upon returning from her mission, in 1972 she furthered her education at Brigham Young University. Soon thereafter she married fellow Uruguayan missionary James Jensen. In the next year, they welcomed their only son Eric into the family. Sadly, Jim and Carma’s union did not last, and they divorced in 1976.

Early in her career, Carma was employed as the receptionist for Terracor in Salt Lake City working for CEO Ian Cumming. It was also where she met the love of her life and husband for the past 47 years, Vic, as he was hired to complete a research study for Terracor. Vic and Carma married soon thereafter and moved to Terracor planned community, Stansbury Park, near Tooele, Utah. Carma and Vic were sealed one year later in the Oakland Temple in California, along with their 1-year-old son Cody,

Carma demonstrated her determination and passion for learning by obtaining her bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix in Concord, California in 2008. Upon graduation, her children presented her with a plaque honoring her as Mama Cum Laude.

After obtaining her bachelor’s degree, Carma secured employment as office manager with the non-profit organization California Transplant Donor Network in Oakland, California that connects donors with people in need of organ and tissue transplants in northern California and northern Nevada. It was by far her most favorite job made even more enjoyable by the wonderful and fun people she got to work with. She was an avid supporter of Donate Life.

During her life, other employment opportunities included an early morning paper route with her kids and their friends in Concord, California. Carma also worked to take care of office plants in high-rise corporate buildings in downtown San Francisco. In her last employment position, she took care of office plants for Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in Provo, Utah.

Carma was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She found immense comfort and camaraderie in her faith community. She served in a variety of callings in the LDS Church including genealogy extraction missionary with her sister Anne, scheduling missionary with LDS Social Services, primary teacher, gospel doctrine instructor, and Primary President when she was 74 years old.

Carma had a passion for a wide variety of music and books. Everything from fantasy novels to church history could be found in her book collection. It was just as common to catch her enjoying the music of the Carpenters or the Tabernacle Choir while reading a good book as it was to find her rocking out in the kitchen cooking to the tunes of Metallica.

Carma enjoyed activities with her kids and grandkids including card games, puzzles, arts & crafts, and watching movies. She would often quote some of her favorite movies like Support Your Local Sheriff or What’s Up Doc in everyday conversations, a habit she graciously passed on to her kids. Her absolute favorite activity for the past 10 years was the annual ‘FamCamp’ reunion with all her children and grandchildren spent at a national park or an Airbnb home for a week. It kept her fully rejuvenated until the next one.

Being a California girl, Carma loved the beach and was in her element whenever she was near the ocean. She believed in the importance of staying active wherever she was. Her favorite ways to exercise were tennis, swimming, going for hikes in nature, and karate. She always felt one of her greatest accomplishments was earning her purple belt in Shitō-ryū karate in her 40’s and winning the 1st place trophy in a statewide competition for her staff kata demonstration.

Everyone who knew Carma was touched by her infectious laughter and sharp wit. She was a beacon of light and laughter in the lives of many. Her legacy will be one of kindness, acceptance, and a deep appreciation for others and life’s simple pleasures. Her spirit, love, and lessons will forever engrave our hearts. Her joy will continue to be a guiding light in our lives, and her memory will forever be a blessing to us all.

Carma is survived by her husband, Victor Morris, sisters Anne Bown (Acell) and Arlene Saldivar (Thomas), her children, Eric (Kim), Cody (Sam), Erin, Matt (Lilian), Sean, and Kris, her grandchildren, Sara, Dylan, River, Kiara, Zevon, Katy, and Alex. She was preceded in death by her father Lynn Elmer Sorenson and mother Elizabeth Geneva Owen Sorenson and brothers Lynn and Paul Sorenson. Each of her family members played a vital part in her life and contributed to her abundance of joyous memories. Additionally, Carma was not a mother to just her children, she was a mom and friend to many other souls that she adopted as part of her family.

Her funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 650 West 800 South, Payson, Utah. Visitation will be prior from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Payson Cemetery, 400 North 800 East, Payson, Utah.

We loved our friend and dear Ward Member Carma Morris. She always was a delight! She had a special nick name for me that I always chuckled at. One of many ways that Carma influenced me was when she taught the family History class in our Ward. Her resources were so helpful and invited an exploring spirit. I loved that class. I also was reminded of her great ability to hold on to the doctrines of the gospel and teach us in her time as Gospel Doctrine teacher. This was memorable. Carma Morris and Vic Morris were wonderful Ma & Pa back in 2019 when our ward went on a Trek out at Mosida trek site . Vic Morris we extend to you all our sympathies and condolences and wish you to find peace and comfort. Take care!
