Brent Clinger Penrod November 11, 1943 - December 22, 2020

Brent Clinger Penrod returned home to his Heavenly Father on December 22, 2020. Brent’s larger than life personality and unwavering love of family are forever etched in the hearts of his loved ones. Brent believed you were never taller than when you were on the back of a horse and that a nice pair of cowboy boots could take you wherever you needed to go. He appreciated the finer things in life, like a felt hat, starched jeans, and a shiny set of spurs.

Brent is the son of Cloward and Laverne Penrod and the first of nine children. He grew up in Provo, Utah until his teenage years when his family moved to Genola to run a dairy farm. Brent graduated from Payson High School and furthered his education at Brigham Young University and Snow College. He served a two year mission in Australia for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and when he returned home he married his sweetheart, Sandra Ellen Thomas. They were sealed in the Manti Temple on March 6, 1970. Brent and Sandy shared fifty years together and nothing made Brent happier than to have all their children on a special trip to celebrate their anniversary this past year.

Brent was a successful businessman. He began working at Community Press in 1971 and later purchased the printing company in 1985 with his good friend and business partner, Chuck Revill. He owned and operated the Press until his retirement in 2010. Brent, by his example, taught his children and grandchildren about the value of hard work.

One of Brent’s biggest passions has always been horses. He was a member of the Utah Cutting Horse Association, where he competed and won several year end awards. He passed on his love of horses to his family. The only thing Brent loved more than competing himself was watching his children and grandchildren in the arena.

Brent served in many callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, but especially loved teaching the youth and in his later years, enjoyed teaching the High Priest Group in his ward.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy and their five children, Dorthy (David) Haskell, Clint (Emily) Penrod, Cody (Erica) Penrod, Clay (Nancy) Penrod, and Rebecca (Jason) Graves, 22 grandchildren and 2 great- grandchildren.  He is proceeded in death by his parents, two sisters, Margie Hurst and Lynnae Hill, his brother John Dee Penrod, and grandson, Brennan David Haskell.

Brent’s boots will never be filled, but he left behind a legacy of love to follow.

A private funeral for Brent’s immediate family and siblings will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at the Genola church.  A horse drawn funeral procession will follow to the Genola Cemetery at 1:00. All are welcome to pay their respects along the procession route and at the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Missionary Fund or to the Utah High School Rodeo Association through Venmo @uhsra

The funeral service will be Livestreamed at the bottom of this obituary page on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at 11 a.m.

Sad to hear about Brent’s passing. I always looked up to Brent and enjoyed his unique cowboy additude about life. I worked at the press most of my working life. Brent was always good to me and all the employees. He treated us like family. He created opportunities for people to grow and progress in the company. He did that for me, I will always be grateful. My condolences to Sandy and all the family. This moment in time is hard but it will get better with time…
