Brad Alan Moon, 61, passed away in Rio Rancho, NM on June 15, 2022, from complications of cancer. He was born on September 13, 1960, to David Lee Moon and Julia (Judy) Catherine Lovelett in Craig, CO. He spent part of his youth on a sheep ranch in Cokeville, WY where he loved to be on the horses with the sheepherders.
Brad moved with his family to Spanish Fork, UT in junior high and graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1978 where he played football. It was in high school that he met the love of his life, Lisa Taylor. They were married on July 13, 1979. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple on August 18, 1990.
Brad graduated from Provo Trade Tech (now UVU) in 1979 with a certificate in heavy equipment diesel mechanics. He went to work at PDM Steel in Spanish Fork from 1980 to 2000. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in 2000 from Regents College through the military. It was then that he finally decided what he wanted to be when he grew up. He quit work to go back to school in the medical field. He went on to graduate from UVU in 2001 with his Associate of Science degree and also his LPN license and in 2002 with his RN license. Brad worked at Mountain View Hospital from 2001 to 2005 as he went to the University of Utah where he graduated in 2004 with his Bachelor of Science Nursing degree. Brad and Lisa then moved to Connecticut where he attended CCSU and graduated in 2007 with a Master of Biology degree as a CRNA (Nurse Anesthetist). Brad and Lisa moved to New Mexico in 2008 where he worked as a CRNA from 2008 until his passing. His calm and gentle demeanor made him an exceptional caregiver.
Brad was very patriotic and had a deep love for his country. He served his country proudly in the Utah National Guard and then the Army Reserve for 23 years. He started as a heavy mechanic for the 1/211th Aviation Battalion. He graduated from Officers Candidate School (OCS) as Honor Graduate and was awarded the Commandants Saber. After graduating from OCS, he was the Communications Officer for the 211th Aviation Battalion Attack Helicopter Unit. He went on to become the Commander for Headquarters Battery 1/140th and then Commander for C (Charlie) Battery 1/145th Artillery under ICORPS Artillery. While the commander of Charlie Battery, the Unit was awarded “Top Gun” for the Battalion. In the 150-year history of that Battery, Charlie Battery had never received that award before nor after his command. His final position in the Army was to provide anesthesia as a CRNA for the 934th Forward Surgical team while deployed to Fort Hood, Texas. During his Army career, he received two Army Achievement Awards, four Army Commendation Awards, the Meritorious Service Award, Air Assault Badge, and numerous state awards. He also received the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Bronze Star, Silver Hour Glass, and the M Device. Finally, Brad served as an Operations Officer and worked with the CIA and FBI during the 2002 SLC Winter Olympics. At the same time, he was the Officer in Charge (OIC) for the Stadium Security during the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Brad was a jack-of-all-trades and could fix and build anything he set his mind to. He was a pilot, gun enthusiast, and an avid Utes fan. He was a member of the Diamond Fork Riding Club in the early 1980s, and a Spanish Fork EMT from 1997 to 2005, serving as the captain from 2003 to 2005. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings, including executive secretary, membership clerk, financial clerk, and assistant service coordinator. His favorite pastime was spending cherished time with his wife and family.
Brad is survived by his wife Lisa, children Amberly (Kenneth) Kariuki of Provo, UT, Angela (Mark) Daley of Payson, UT, Cody Lee Moon of Farmington, NM, his father and second mother Dave and Jane Moon of Payson, UT, his siblings Bruce (Melinda) Moon of Nephi, UT, Leanne (Duane) Garrett of Payson, UT, Clint (Teresa) Larsen of Draper, UT, Jaylene (Mac) Cook of Elko, NV, Janell Pease of Thorndale, TX, Amie (Chris) Pittelli of Mapleton, UT, and his grandchildren Aubrey, Ashlyn, Breklyn, Beau, and Mason. He is also survived by his two special fur babies, Willow and Jasmine. They were his girls. He is preceded in death by his mother, Judy Swanson and his nephew, Zachary Pease.

June 21, 2022 at 11:00 pmBrad was the epitome of commitment, honor, integrity, intelligence and friend.
It was an absolute honor to have Brad join our ambulance crew when he began his service to Spanish Fork City.
I have admired and been in awe of him since his first day on the ambulance.
A true man, that was true to his word, his convictions, his family, his friends and his goals.
May he fly amongst the angels.
