Bonnie Norma Garrett Smith, age 90, of St. George, Utah, passed away on February 26, 2026 in her apartment in The Retreat at Sunriver.
Bonnie was born in Nephi, Utah on April 29, 1935 to Brigham Floyd Garrett and Norma Blackett Garrett. She was the seventh child in the family with eight brothers, Jack, Carl, Kenneth (Dorothy), Marcus (Garvene), Verl (Lucile), Clyde (Carolyn), Richard (Gayle), and Michael (Connee). She graduated from Juab High School in Nephi in 1953 and attended two semesters at Brigham Young University. Bonnie married Leo Clifford Smith on December 26, 1955 in Nephi, Utah. They were later sealed in the Manti, Utah Temple. Bonnie filled her life with Leo, her five children, and church work. She was an excellent homemaker.
Bonnie is predeceased by her husband, father, mother, and all of her brothers.
All five of her children are still living, including Julie (Joseph) Bundy, Carol (Richard) Peterson, Merianne (Rick) Horton, Linda (Allan) Tantillo, and Garrett (Carol) Smith. Bonnie has 17 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
Bonnie loved people, and she was generous with her time and encouragement. She kept a beautiful home and enjoyed the tasks of cooking, cleaning, laundry, and sewing. Bonnie always had beautiful house plants to tend. She crocheted, learned how to do ceramics, and loved to experiment with new recipes. Wherever Bonnie went she brought warmth, a beautiful smile, and sincere interest in the people around her. She had many friends through the years who were dear to her heart.
Bonnie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. She served in many capacities with women, young women, and children. Bonnie served a mission with her husband, Leo, to the Visitors’ Center at the Mesa Temple in Mesa, Arizona from 1996-1998. Bonnie loved to study the scriptures, attend church meetings, and watch General Conference twice a year. She had a valiant testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Bonnie and Leo lived in Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, Texas, and Arizona. They enjoyed traveling to visit their children and grandchildren. They also took trips to Israel, Russia, Mexico, and throughout the United States.
Bonnie loved her family and her heritage. She was always so grateful for her grandparents and loved to tell stories about them. She loved her Mama and Daddy and all her brothers and their wives and their children. At least once a year Bonnie was able to visit her parents and family in Utah. She always looked forward to this so much and cherished every minute she had with them. We know that there will be a sweet reunion in heaven with Leo and all her family.

March 5, 2026 at 3:35 pmI was a volunteer at The Retreat where Bonnie was living. I could tell right away Bonnie never thought ill of anyone. We would chat about life and people and circumstances and she would correct us on our way of thinking. She would keep us grounded and humble. Bonnie was a Joy to talk to. She was always mentioning her eight brothers.
You will be missed Bonnie!
