Beverly Binks Shepherd, known as “Grandma Bev”. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, Aunt, and friend passed away peacefully on October 30, 2024, at the age of 78.
Born on June 23rd,1946, to Merrill Dean and Annie Rowe Beck Binks. She married her sweetheart, Shirl Don Shepherd, in the Salt Lake Temple on March 4, 1965. She lived a life rich with love, music, and service.
Bev’s passion for the piano was evident from a young age. She filled her home with melodies that brought joy to all who entered. Her music reflected her generous spirit. She often shared this love by teaching her children, grandchildren, and friends, passing on not just notes and scales but the gift of expression through music.
Her heart for service was evident in everything she did. For over 30 years, Bev took pride in her work for the post office, always going the extra mile to ensure everyone felt valued and loved.
Bev was also known for her incredible cooking skills. Her kitchen was a gathering place, filled with the aroma of home-cooked meals that nourished both body and soul. She believed food was a way to connect, and her home was always open to friends, family, and strangers. All gathered around the kitchen table with feelings of togetherness and love.
As a devout follower of Jesus Christ, Bev’s faith guided her throughout her life. Bev was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and she deeply loved her Savior. She found strength and purpose in her relationship with God, and her faith inspired her to serve others and spread love in all her endeavors. Bev had the ability to make EVERYONE feel like they were “her favorite.” People were drawn to her light, contagious laughter and kindness.
Her commitment to serving others was a cornerstone of her life. Whether volunteering in a variety of church callings, participating in Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, or organizing community events, Bev devoted her time to helping those in need. She was a true advocate for kindness and believed that small acts of service could change people’s lives.
Bev cherished her family above all else. She is survived by her eternal companion, Shirl Don, and their five children, Brent (Michelle)Shepherd, Layne (Teona) Shepherd, Joel (Cheryl) Shepherd, Lori (Dustin) Ray, J.D. (Carlyn) Shepherd, and their 23 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren who were the light of her life, not to mention the countless others who consider her “Grandma Bev”. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Carol Ann Spiers and Jeneanne Gehringer, her infant brother, Gale Binks, and her grandson, Seth Ray. She instilled in them the values of compassion, creativity, and the importance of family bonds.
Bev’s legacy of love, music, and service will continue to inspire all who knew her. A viewing will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, from 5:30-8:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building, 5916 South 3200 West in Lake Shore.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 11 am at the Spanish Fork West Stake Center, 575 West 400 North Spanish Fork, with a viewing at the stake center prior to funeral services from 9:30-10:30.
The interment will be at the Spanish Fork Cemetery.
“Grandma Bev” will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for the unwavering love and joy she brought to everyone’s lives.
On behalf of the Shepherd family, we want to thank ALL of the kind caregivers, friends, and family who took great care of our Bev, especially her angel nurses, Karen and Alexa.

November 5, 2024 at 1:56 amI was so sad to hear about the passing of Beverly. I’ve know her most of my life. I have so many fond memories of her. She was my first piano teacher. When I received my mission call, she called me from the post office and said it was there. She set it aside so I could come up and get it. Whenever I saw her, she always had a big smile for me and wanted to know how I was doing. I felt like she was a life long friend. She was one of a kind and I will miss her.

November 5, 2024 at 4:38 pmBeverly will always live on in my heart through my love for music. She taught me so much during the four years of music instruction, especially how to “feel” the music. Every time I play difficult pieces of music, I hear Beverly encouraging words. She opened her home and her heart to so many. Sending my love to Shirl and all of her family.
