Beverly Beth Johnson Johansen died peacefully in her home in Mapleton, Utah on June 11, 2025. She was born September 3, 1945, the third daughter of Benjamin Bruton Johnson and Beth K. Mangum. A few hours after Beverly’s birth, her mother passed away. Nine months later, Beverly’s father married Cleo Stapley, who joined the family with her two sons.
The family made their home in Downey, California, where Beverly would spend the rest of her childhood. She was diligent in her schoolwork, played the piano and organ, enjoyed swimming, and loved visiting the beach with her family. She graduated from Warren Senior High School in 1963, and in 1967 she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University. While at BYU, she met the love of her life, Arthur William Johansen. They were married on June 2, 1966 in the Los Angeles temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Arthur’s career took them to San Jose, California; Naperville, Illinois; Trumbull, Connecticut; and Guadeloupe, French West Indies. After retirement, they moved to Mapleton, Utah.
Beverly was a devoted wife and mother to four children: Jody, Brian, Jennie, and Ben. She also pursued many hobbies. She sewed, swam, quilted, made music, played racquetball, and—above all—served others. Wherever she lived, Beverly made close and lasting friendships as she assisted in the local schools, community, and church. She was a lifelong and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved Jesus Christ. She showed this love by opening her home and her heart to everyone. She loved serving and spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws—Ray William Johansen and Bessie Peterson—and her siblings: Barbara Jo Hirschi, Bette Jean Smith, Thomas Marvin Scott, and James Darrel Vance.
She is survived by her husband, Arthur Johansen, their children—Jody Cleo Osburn (Steve), Brian William Johansen (Jennifer), Jennie Beth Green (Adam), Benjamin Ray Johansen (Alicia)—and 19 grandchildren and their spouses, who she considered her own.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 475 North 1600 W, Mapleton, UT 84664. Viewings will also be held at the same location on Friday, June 20 from 6 – 8 PM and Saturday, June 21 from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM. If arriving before 12 PM, please use the south entrance.
