Betty Margaret Blanthorn, the best wife, mom, grandma and friend anyone could have, passed peacefully on February 5th, 2024 after 96 years of life with all of its joys and challenges. Betty was born in Fresno, California on September 20th ,1927 to Roy James Morrison and Molissie Vera Cosler. She was always fond of Fresno and her childhood friends. Her mom passed away when Betty was only 12 years old. As a result, she was very close to her grandparents, Ulysses and Minnie Cosler, who helped raise her and were a great support to her and her brother, Robert.
After graduating from Fresno High School she married and had 2 boys from the marriage, Gordon and Greg Keller. She later divorced. As a single Mom, she worked hard as a court transcriber in the Fresno County Courts. A co-worker introduced her to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and also set her up on a blind date with Chester Blanthorn. After a couple years of dating, Chester and Betty were married in the Salt Lake Temple on November 5th, 1957. A few years later, their son, Steve was born. Eventually, Betty returned to work as a legal secretary. She loved to work and be busy. She didn’t like sitting around. As a recent as a couple months ago, she said if she had a car, she’d go get a job.
In 1996, she moved from Fresno to Orem, Utah to be closer to her younger grandkids. Mom and Dad enjoyed living in Orem and the friendships they made there. A little over 10 years ago, she moved to Spanish Fork and then to the Legacy House Assisted Living, where she lived until she passed. Mom always made special friends, that she loved and cared for deeply. This was true in Fresno, Orem and the Legacy House. She was a very kind, caring and loving person but she was also determined and feisty. Ice cream always made her happy! She was a great cook and her family was always her first priority. We’ll miss her chocolate cake and roasts, but we know she’s in a better place. She was the best!
She is survived by her 3 boys and wives, Gordon & Marika Keller, Greg & Patricia Keller and Steve & Shauna Blanthorn, 8 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren
A memorial service will be held for Betty on Friday, February 9th at 11 AM at Walker Funeral Home in Spanish Fork, UT. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
