Betty Jo Spear May 4, 1936 - May 13, 2022

Betty Jo Spear passed away on May 13, 2022 in Spanish Fork, Utah at Deseret Villages among wonderful friends and caregivers.

Betty Jo was born on May 4, 1936 in Little Rock Arkansas to Gerald George Wilson and Thelma Violet Day.   Her mother passed away when she was young, and Gerald, (Jock) remarried Violet Auvazena Pollock when Betty Jo was 15 years old.   Violet became the person that was the mother role for Betty Jo.. She also gained two siblings by marriage, George Wayne Hewitt, and Kinta Eileen McGuire.

Betty Jo attended schools in Louisiana and Southern Nevada.  Betty had some special needs in her youth, and in those days there were not many services available, but Betty Jo was a hard worker, and enjoyed working. She worked lots of different jobs, including Deseret Industries and her last job  was at Central Utah Enterprises in Provo, Utah.  She finally decided she could retire at nearly 80 years of age!

Betty Jo married Charles Richard Spear in 1970.  He was killed in an automobile accident in 1974.

Betty Jo was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.   She lived in the Palmyra Ward.

Betty came to live at Deseret Villages in 1986 when it was first built as a long term housing facility for special needs people.   She was there until her death.   She loved the girls and the staff and they loved her.

Betty Jo loved watching movies and doing crafts.  She avoided drama as much as possible, but was quite surprising occasionally as she came up with some cute teases!

Betty Jo is survived by numerous nephews, great nephews and neices, and many extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings.

The family wishes to thank the employees of NES and Deseret Villages and Hospice workers for the kind and loving care that has been offered to Betty Jo for so many years.
