Barbara Loy Fielding Olsen passed away on August 9, 2026. She was born November 15, 1935 to Fay Fielding and Grace V Walker.
She was born in their home on the southeast corner of Center and State Street in Orem, Utah. She was the first of 5 siblings; Bonnie, Carolee, Garth and Sue. Bonnie was her best friend and cohort, only a year and a half apart. They attended Sharon Elementary in Orem. When Barbara was 12 years old, the family moved to Leamington, Utah where she was involved in 4-H with many friends and good times. She attended Delta High School 8 th -10 th grade. When she was going into her junior year of high school, the family moved to Payson Canyon where her Dad worked for Strawberry Water Users at the mouth of Payson Canyon. That home is the site of many wonderful family memories: “Our Mountain Home So Dear!” She graduated from Payson High School in May 1953. In the Fall of 1953, she went to Weber College in Ogden, Utah where she graduated with a Nursing Degree in June of 1955. That Fall, she moved back home and started working at Utah Vally Hospital in Provo, Utah.
Then, in November, came a blind date with a young man named Norman Olsen from Spanish Fork. Barbara was very shy and Bonnie had to talk her into going. They had a great time and were engaged on New Years Eve!
Barbara and Norman were married August 16 th ,1956 in the Salt Lake Temple. Norman built a home next door to his parents on the lot given to him by them with the stipulation that he build a red brick home. This home is where Norman and Barbara raised their 12 children; Joseph Fielding, Mark Hans, James Allan, Tawna Lee, John Alden, Norman Glen Jr. Sarah Jane, Matthew Fay, Grace Ann, Rebecca Joann, Russell Douglas, and Elizabeth. Barbara had 12 children in 16 years’ time. All she ever wished to do was be a mother and she fulfilled her wish!
Who can count the number of meals prepared, diapers changed, cuts and bruises attended to, home evening lessons, fights arbitrated, floors mopped, dishes washed, life lessons taught (and ignored), laundry loads folded, camping trips prepared for and cleaned up after, tomatoes bottled, worry lines and gray hairs created, stories told, hugs, kisses and times love was rendered unfeigned in the life of one called mother? No one, but the angels. To us mortals, her children, it is countless! Thank you, Mom!
Barbara served throughout her life in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ her whole life. She loved studying the scriptures and teaching the truths found there. Her faith and testimony are a shining example to all who knew her. She went to Girls Camp for 25 years in one capacity or another. At camp, each young womn was tucked in and kissed goodnight. She had a great ability to love others. Many have felt that love through her gentle kindness.
After raising her children, Barbara and Norman had many fun adventures being involved in Wagon Trains. Dressed as pioneers, they camped and traveled in covered wagons drawn by horses. Barbara loved making pioneer dresses and other clothing for men and children. She loved identifying wildflowers along the way and helping make delicious meals for the camp. They met many wonderful friends through Wagon Training and made priceless memories together that had previously been hindered by sheep and children.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Norman Olsen; her daughter Sarah Manis and her granddaughter, Jenny Marie, and her sisters, Bonnie Chantry, Carolee Fielding and Sue Reber.
She is survived by her brother, Garth Fielding (Ruby), and her children, Joe Olsen (Gina), Mark Olsen (Jill), James Olsen (Derlene), Tawna Marsh (Dave), John Olsen (Trisha), Norman Jr. Olsen (Tiffanie), Rob Manis (Cori), Matt Olsen (Angela), Grace Ann Skousen (Jered), Becky Concoby (Dennis), Russell Olsen (Lisa), Elizabeth Bunderson (Curtis), 64 grandchildren and 90 something great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held in Barbara’s honor on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home located at 187 South Main St., Spanish Fork, Utah. An additional visitation will be held Thursday, August 13, 2026 from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 1006 East 200 South, Spanish Fork, Utah. Her funeral service will follow, at the same location, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery, located at 420 South 400 East, Spanish Fork, Utah.

August 12, 2026 at 11:03 pmI did not know Barbara very well, but I am lucky enough to have one of her beautiful granddaughters as my daughter in law. The little time I spent with Barbara it was apparent the genuine, kind, fun beautiful person she was. I admired her, the love and respect her large family had for her, is testimony of the amazing person she was. Condolences to her family, I am so sorry for your loss.
