Barbara Houser Lerwill, a true angel here on earth and beloved by all, passed away in peace, surrounded by her devoted family on May 5th, 2024, after a battle with cancer. Barbara was born on March 5th 1955, to Ned and Melva Houser in Payson Utah, which is where she attended school and met the love of her life, John Lloyd Lerwill. The two were married September 25th, 1971, and later sealed in the Provo temple October 22nd, 1975. The bond John and Barbara created was unshakable and created a legacy of love that still continues through friends and family. Barbara was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her generosity was abundant, and she had a skill for being charitable and never getting caught.
Barbara was a shy person, but to all that knew her, she was a shining example of Christ-like love. Although outwardly humble and peaceful, Barbara was steadfast in her commitment to compassion and an unyielding dedication to loving everyone. It seemed that her heart space was endless and when you were in her presence, you naturally had the freedom to be yourself.
Barbara served as a lunch lady for the Nebo School District for over 30 years. She had a way with children that seemed to bring out their most joyful expressions. Her kind acts to the children have left an everlasting impression and many still count her as their second mom.
Barbara loved camping, traveling, reading, puzzles, crosswords and playing games with her children and grandchildren. When playing games, she would often cheat so that someone else would win. She loved spoiling the little ones with popcorn and “midnight toast” at the many slumber parties she hosted.
Barbara is survived by her sweetheart, John and their children, Kirk (Kitzey) from Salem, Shawn (Laura) from Pleasant Grove, Kim (Sara) from Santaquin and Lisa Lyman (Mike) from Spanish Fork. Together, John and Barbara were blessed with 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Barbara is also survived by her loving siblings, Judy (Lamar) Zeeman and Kay (Lynette) Houser. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ned and Melva Houser and her sister Wendy Spencer.
We would like to thank Dr. Brant Esplin, Salem Revere Health Imaging, Mountain View Hospital Emergency Room, and ICU staff for their loving care.
The family would love to see you and hear your precious stories of Barbara. A viewing will be held on Friday, May 17th, 2024, from 6-8 pm Walker Mortuary, 587 South 100 West, Payson, Utah. A short viewing will be held prior to the funeral the next day, Saturday May 18th, 2024, from 9:30-10:30 am with the funeral starting at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 482 West 1400 South in Payson, Utah. Interment will be in Payson City Cemetery, 400 North 800 East, Payson, Utah.
