Our loving Mother, Grandmother and great Grandmother passed away August 9, 2022, in Spanish Fork, Utah. Arlene was born on Feb. 3, 1940, to Henry Rodger Markham and Grace Afton Losee in Leland, Utah.

Arlene grew up in the Leland and Spanish Fork area, attending school in Spanish Fork and graduating from Spanish Fork High School in 1958.

She married the love of her life Wayne Eugene Peterson on July 2, 1958, in the Manti Temple. Together they raised three children Bryon, Valinda and Kelly.

As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mom had a very strong testimony of the gospel and her Savior Jesus Christ. She helped serve in many church positions throughout the years. Mom was the rock of the family when it came to the church. She spent countless hours typing and working on her family genealogy. Making sure she had it up to date and that everyone in her family had a copy (numerous binders of paper).

She was a homemaker early in her life raising her children and making sure they were taken care of. Mom always had something for us to snack on after school and she always had a nice hot meal ready for the family when Dad would get home from work. Later she started working in the food service area for Nebo School District where she enjoyed working with the other school lunch ladies.

Mom was a scrapbook professional she has put together numerous scrapbooks throughout the years.

We never knew what photo Mom was going to put into a scrapbook!

Mom’s family was her pride and joy. She was always there for us, supporting and loving whatever we were doing sports, cheerleading, school, church, scouts, campouts, etc. She always said she was proud of each of us children, her grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She was a big Utah Jazz and BYU basketball fan. She and Dad were always watching one of their games in the evenings.

She is survived by her son Bryon (Carrie) Peterson of Sp. Fork, daughter Valinda (Jesse) Hanks, son Kelly (Alison) Peterson of Salem, grandchildren Amberly, Brooks, Ashley, Alecia, Justin, Collin, Kaiden, Addie, Chance, and Cole, along with 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, father, mother, sisters Ladona, Majel, brother Thayne L., and grandson Cody Bates.

Funeral service will be Tuesday morning, August 16, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Palmyra Stake Center, 505 East 900 North, Spanish Fork, Utah. Family and friends may call on Monday evening, August 15, 2022, from 6-8 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, Utah; and on Tuesday morning from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral. Interment will be at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
