Amos Archuleta April 3, 1931 - December 24, 2020

Amos Archuleta, age 89, joined his sweetheart, Stella, in heaven on December 24, 2020.  He was born in Petaca, New Mexico, on April 3, 1931, to Juan and Manualita Valdez Archuleta.  He was the third of 10 children, having 5 sisters and 4 brothers.

Dad was very proud of his New Mexico heritage. He grew up roaming the hills of Petaca with his siblings and cousins. The family relocated to Utah and dad attended Spanish Fork High.  Amos joined the military in 1951, and served in the U.S. Army, during the Korean Conflict.  His status as a Veteran was a great source of pride to him. After his discharge, he went to work for the D&RG Railway.  He spent 35 years there, retiring as a section foreman.

Music was always a big part of Amos’ life.  He was a self-taught, gifted guitarist. While playing with his band at a dance in Helper, Utah, he met his wife, Stella Vigil. It was love at first sight and they were married in October 1955.  They spent the next 64 years together, until her passing in August of 2019. They raised their first family, Peggy,  Jerry, and Mike, in Springville. They relocated to Salem, where they raised their second family (their grandchildren): Brandon, Brady, Jasmine, and Tyler .  Mom and dad loved to travel, camp, fish, gamble, entertain their family at their home and play cards with friends.  They were truly sweethearts and best friends. Amos loved to play music and played with his band, The Midnight Strangers, for more than 50 years.

Amos is survived by two of his children; Peggy (Gene) Ostler, and Mike Archuleta; his 8 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; two brothers, Mark Archuleta and Alfonso Rodriguez; sisters, Priscilla Sanchez and Loyda Kyremes.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella; son, Jerry; his parents; brothers, Dan and Obed Archuleta; sisters: Ascension Gallegos, Emily Huff, and Vickie Zamora.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at Walker Funeral Home, 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, Utah.  Funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing one hour prior. Beth Valdez (daughter of Emilio & Ramoncita) says

I am deeply sorry for your loss. I remember him from the Valdez reunions we had, and their visits to Petaca. He had a beautiful smile and was a talented musician. He would play guitar along with my brother Jerry. This is a very nice picture of him. May his soul rest In Peace.

Amos was an awesome human being. I remember the first time I met him for a family reunion. He (and many other relatives) had to get my truck unstuck from the lake shore bed. My father loved playing the guitar with him during these kind of events. He was a kind gentle man and will be missed.

Peggy and family, Our prayers are with each of you in the loss of Amos. He was such a good man, kind, talented, funny and a man of his word. The times he played at our little pub are fondly remembered. Know that he is at peace with Stella and Jerry and will forever be in your memories. Bless you.

I am going to deeply miss my Uncle Amos! I have lived outside of Utah for my entire adult life but still have so many childhood memories and memories of him and my Aunt Stella during my many visits home to Utah over the years. He was a kind and caring man who always made me feel welcome in his home. I was always greeted with a warm conversation and a delicious meal. It is hard to think of my uncle independently from my Aunt Stella since the two were inseparable whenever I saw them, so my memories will always reflect their unity. The things I will most remember about my uncle are the way he loved to help people, his love of family and love for music, his friendship with my father, and his unique laugh. Rest in Peace Tio… and to all of the family who loved you and are loved by you, we will miss you always, think of you often and remember your legacy!
