Mildred Aloha Mize, 92, born March 15,1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024, in Payson, Utah, surrounded by her family. Born to loving parents, Isaac Solomon Waine and Mildred Fay Atwood, she lived a life full of love, adventure, and service.
Aloha grew up in Springville, Utah, where she developed a love for the outdoors, hiking Camelback Mountain, and dancing the Jitterbug. Her adventurous spirit continued as she lived in various places, including a little house on stilts in Florida where her stepfather was stationed, she joyfully recalled rowing a small boat daily to visit her best friend.
Upon returning to Springville and graduating from high school in 1950, Aloha married E.P. Mize on January 14,1952, after meeting him while visiting her brother’s home in California. It was love at first sight. Together, they built a beautiful life with their three children: Jeanne Waters, Deborah Campbell, and Gary Mize. They began living their life together in Texas, later moving to southern California and finally back to the mountains of Utah which she so deeply missed. After E.P.’s passing in 1999, Aloha found companionship with Allie Jay Lance, marrying on January 5, 2008, in Payson, Utah. They lived a life of love, church worship, and one filled with exciting outdoor adventures.
Aloha was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and cherished attending Relief Society and singing church hymns. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life.
She worked as a telephone operator, admitting supervisor, and secretary, holding positions at Hudon Sewing Factory, and Rayloc before retiring. Not long after retirement, soon after the passing of E.P., Aloha returned to work and spent many happy years working at the Payson Senior Center, where she served as a kitchen supervisor, and needlework instructor, giving her time and talents to the community.
A woman of many skills, Aloha was an exceptional knitter, crocheter, and seamstress, known for her perfectionism. She created beautiful baby blessing outfits and won numerous blue ribbons and “Best of Show” awards for her needlework at the county fair. She loved learning and playing the organ, sewing beautiful clothes, and always making holiday crafts for her loved ones.
Aloha enjoyed spending time with her family, teaching her daughter Jeanne and her grandchildren how to knit and crochet. She loved playing games like Mexican Train, Skip-Bo, Sorry, and Yahtzee with her grandchildren and always had a sweet treat on hand for everyone.
She loved the Utah Jazz, camping, fishing, hiking, and four-wheeling. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, from enjoying her favorite plum jam to watching old movies and attending drive-in theaters with her children.
Aloha is survived by her children, Jeanne (Steven)Waters, Deborah (Waymen) Campbell, and Gary (Alissa) Mize; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Erik) Norman, Jared (Tina) Waters, Jessica (David) Durrant, Joshua Waters, Jeremy Waters, Tyson Giles, Kevin Jones Jr., Bryson (Kaitlyn) Mize, Ethan (Sophie) Mize, Austin Mize, Andrew Mize, and Tyler Mize; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her siblings, David Waine and Violet Lindsay. She was also preceded in death by her husband E.P. Mize, her second husband Allie Jay Lance, her parents, and an infant brother.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 902 West 400 North in Payson, Utah. Visitation will be prior from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Springville Evergreen Cemetery, 1997 South 400 East, Springville, Utah.
Aloha leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

I was very lucky to have Mrs. Mize as my second Mom while growing up in Southern California, she cared for me while my parents worked and was one of my Mom’s very best friends.
